Hi All,

I have two 'Malfunction messages' popping up each time I turn the ignition on my E320 cdi (84,500 mls)

'Service Brake - Visit Workshop'
------------------------------
The brake discs & pads were changed, all round, at about 9,000mls ago and the fluid was replaced earlier in the year by my local MB specialist. There is plenty of 'meat' left on the pads.

'Emissions inspect, performed on time?
-------------------------------------
MOT carried out in July. Emissions readings were very good.

I would appreciate any thoughts, many thanks.

The SBC pump for the brakes has most likley cycled out , this will cause the brake srevice message , if you serch here theres lots about it . MB where changing them free but have started charging to replace the pump , IIRC there around 900 euro with 50 % good will from MB .

As above for the SBC fault.

The emissions performed on time is a coding that needs resetting on star diag within the instrument cluster & assist settings if I remember correctly . It was a setting for a different market, u need to just set the date as far forward as possible.

Is the message in red?

Hi

The message is NOT in red lettering, it's white.
Spoke to MB stealership today and was informed that I may just need a 'software update'. These update's are normally carried out during routine service's. However, if the issue is to replace the pump, then it will cost me approx £1800.00!!!
As for any goodwill gesture, this only applies to vehicles less than nine years old with MB service history. Even then only a max of 50% will be offered, sometimes!
Its booked in for a diagnostic's check (later this week) at a cost of £80 and any updates will be installed at the same time.

Fingers crossed on outcome.

Fault Message Update

Well, I've just got car back from MB...

* SBC unit apparently just needed 're-setting' and should last many more years!
* 'Emissions check' message also just needed re-setting.

What a result...a potential bill of £1800 turned into £80 inc vat.:bannana::)

Lucky!
