Hi all

Not a regular poster but here for some help and advice. I have a E320 04 plate that has been squeaking at the front end. I knew it was suspension related and in all probability a dry bush of sorts. This weekend this has turned into a "knock" when turning the wheel and pulling away and on quick examination I now have play at the bush. Does anybody have a quick tutorial for changing the lower suspension bushes. I would also like some advice on whether it is easier to change the bush in situ (Press the bush out of the arm) or remove the arm altogether and press out on a bench. Are there any special tools needed or will the addition of heat enable me to do the job.
Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Matt.

I need to do the same on my 211 on 04 plate.

I've read that dealers have a special tool to remove old and press in new joint in situ thus reducing labour time.
Therefore, making price comparable to Indy (that doesn't have tool).

What sort of time are we talking to do it?
Shoud I go to dealer for this or turn to indy?

The special tool enables you to do this in situ as Mr Shr points out. I have replaced most of the balljoints on the front linkages of my 211. IIRC there are two on the bottom wishbone, one on the anti-rollbar droplink and one on the top wishbone. Ive done the job by removing stuff and manually pressing out the old joints on the bench but I think the special tool would be a wise investment for anyone buying an older 211. I think the tool is available for around £300.

This is the tool you need for the lower ball joint. Not too badly priced and fine for the DIY Mechanic. Sell it on when your done ;)

A reasonably good "How To" I found on the net is below. Although it is poss to do it without releasing the top joint.
