I normally drive my W211 E280CDI pretty sedately, but have recently had a problem when trying to accelerate rapidly. Whilst joing a motorway, I pushed the accererator pedal down to the floor, expecting the car to downshift and rocket away. Instead it seemed to "hunt" between the gears, and didn't accelerate very fast at all!..........After this incident, the car seemed to be in some sort of "limp home" mode, and wouldn't respond quickly to the accelerator pedal for the rest of the journey.
After stopping for a while and restarting, the car seemed to reset and returned to normal, but I now feel very wary about how it might react.
MB reset the fault codes with star, and said they thought that the car probably got "confused" with my normal sedate driving, and sudden demand for speed. Has anybody else suffered this, and know wether it might be a fault..............The car goes great otherwise and has done 109,000 miles.

The inlet port shut off fault is a common one and can cause lack of power.

Hmm, that has happened to me a few times. Simply stopping and starting the engine solves it, but it doesn't happen at all now. Whatever it was probably got sorted out at the last service.
