Just bought a 54 reg W211 E270 CDI Estate, 'sold as seen' and beginning to find out why so cheap. Won't bore you with full list of things not working (despite a full service history) but can anyone tell me where the motor for the automatic luggage cover is located. I've had alook around and even with the On-Line EPC I cant find it!

I'm guessing that the load cover is not retracting when the tailgate opens.

Before you go dismantling everything, make sure the lugs on the ends of the load cover are locating properly in the little clips on the D-pillar racks. If you don't locate the load cover in those clips properly, you can fool the car into thinking the cover is not in place. Then it will make no attempt to move it out of the way!

Just thought it might me worth trying this before you try something far more involved.

This is the only help I can offer regarding the layout of things:

90 and 100 are the left and right tracks, and 150 is labelled as the motor drive. Its precise location remains a mystery. However, if I were a betting man I'd say have a look somewhere under the off-side rear light cluster...

Solved (I think).

Thanks 'Corned'. I don't know why but after spending yesterday afternoon investigating with no joy and registering with Online EPC to get more information, and spending more time this morning with no luck, all of a sudden and withoout warning I opened the boot and wondered what the strange noise was. Yes the cover retracted and has been fine since.

Maybe I disturbed something with the hammer, or maybe the cursing worked, but it now seems fine so on to the next problem - Parktronic.

mine does this occasionally, its a 2007 model. the motor is hidden behind the panels on the left hand side of the car. Under warranty I have had new runners and a new motor twice. a definite weak point. it can be very noisy too

Just for information, the load cover motor on my 2004 S211 is located in the roof. It's behind the headlining, right at the very back, in between the two roof speakers.
