Somebody broke the folding mechanism of my driver (left as I'm in continental Europe) side mirror. I am looking for a replacement part but can't figure out the right one. According to EPC I should install A2118101576 but A2118101376 seems to be compatible as well. Last month I dismantled the passenger side mirror to replace the side light and the mechanism looked exactly like the A2118101376.

This is what I found in EPC:
A 211 810 13 76 *
Code: 807/808/809

A 211 810 15 76 *
Code: 500+807/500+808/500+809

Code 500 is for foldable exterior mirrors but I thought all W211 had them. Isn't that correct?

My copy of EPC has A 211 820 11 76 for your left side mirror frame, and A 211 820 15 76 for the 'TS Frame Parts Kit' which appears to be a kit including the mirror frame, electric motor, bolts and connector loom.

For your right side I have A 211 820 16 76 for the 'Parts Kit', but A 211 820 12 76 for just the mirror frame. I am a little concerned about 12 76 though as the description states 'Mirror Frame, left folding'. Maybe an EPC error?

Here's your data card anyway:

A2118101176 seems to be discontinued. I'm not sure which part I need to replace as it's only the folding mechanism that is broken - the motor is fine. But I guess they come as a kit.. I talked to MBSpecialists and they told me the 1576 is for foldable mirrors while the 1376 is for non-foldable ones. I thought that foldable mirrors was standard on these..

I found a replacement mirror that is electrically foldable. However, the mirror lens in mine has automatic dimming which runs on a separate cable while the one I found doesn't. Will this cable be present in mirrors which don't have the dimming feature?

In ECP for your car, there is no mention of with/without code 249 (auto dimming) for the 15 76 (folding mirror) frame kit.

Auto dimming is provided by a sensor in the interior rearview mirror sending a CANBUS signal which is picked up by the door control unit. This evaluates the signal and sends the appropriate actuating voltage to the mirror dimming control which, I believe is the mirror glass itself.

Thus, your car should have this lead which I think goes straight to a connector on the back of the mirror (dimming mirrors are thicker than non-dimming mirrors as they contain a layer of electrolytic gel between the reflector and the glass).

What I am saying is, I don't think the dimming lead is connected to the mirror body.

To get dimming, you should remove the non-dimming mirror glass from the replacement mirror housing/body/motor and replace with your existing dimming mirror glass, then connect your car's existing seperate dimming cable to it

I haven't dismantled a W211 mirror, so I may be wrong. If so, I am sure someone will very rapidly point this out. Hope this helps you anyway.

I disassembled the mirror yesterday. The wire for the dimming is part of the wire harness that connects to the door. Since there is no difference in part numbers between the auto dim and no dim mirrors except for the lens itself, I hope that this cable is standard.

I would have thought the dimming cable is part of the wiring harness that comes with option 249, i.e. its present on all cars supplied with option 249.
