Well after leaving a meeting 1 hour late on Thursday, I finally gelled with the W211. It made up time rather well.

However, I think I have broken it! Their is a moan coming from the front left wheel (as opposed to the front left passenger seat). It gets noticeable at 65 and worse thereafter. No noticeable vibration.

I'm assuming it's the bearing - are these adjustable or is it a replacement? Any hints on cost would be helpful. Car is fast becoming a project!

Does the noise get louder when you change lanes on the motorway, as you load the bearing up?

Bit early to say as I have not been back on the motorway since noticing. I'll probably use the car tomorrow to go to Brum and back, so will note then.

Does not seem to get any worse as far as I can recall, but I suppose I will be slowing down for bends on single carriageway roads.

Can now confirm that the sound does not seem to vary with load. While it comes on at 70 and does get a little worse with speed, it's not a massive graduation. Worse when warm also.

you will need new bearings as long as you dont go to merc they cost around £15 per side and can be done with a large vice and a couple of big sockets not a hard job

Thanks for that. I had the car serviced and a mechanic adjusted them (I think). Noise has now gone, for now at least.
