W211 Noise from steering wheel

Car developed noise from steering wheel area, does sound similar to SBC pump but much quieter, only happens when turning will right or left.
what could it be? Any ideas?

Try steering fluid level

mine was the actual pump, after youve checked the fluid, raise the bonnet & get someone else to turn the wheel & see if the pump is showing movement.
