W211 possible SBC pump failure

Unfortunately they only do a reset. However they can deliver a new unit from Bosch repair service in Germany for abour 3-4 working days and it will cost 920 GBP. As it's exchange they will need the old one.

The quote I had from MB was around 1100.

It would be cheaper to take your old one to the airport with you and fly to Germany and buy your own replacement from Bosch

£560 in Germany and they want £920! Talk about profiteering:wallbash:

I am quiet confident trade price for these pumps is £778 + VAT so if you know a mechanic, they can get this part from MB for that price.

Yeah but they said they only work with garages and not directly :(

Did you get a second opinion from Wayne Gates in the end?

If so, what do they suggest about sourcing the pump?

Eh?
That is more than £920, so doesn't save anything?

Just a note. I had my front pads replaced a two weeks before I got the RED message on the dashboard. I had a "Brake wear" message on the dash but I can't remember if I got "Service brake" at that time or just after the pads were replaced. The chap did NOT used STAR to disable the SBC but replaced the pads straight away and on few places I read that this is necessary. Could this replacement caused the above message ? I've checked the oil reservoir and it has plenty of fluid.

The MB quote was around £1100. The BBA-REMAN price of £920 was for exchange and they would ship it from Germany. Both have VAT included.

Found a company called Sinspeed which claims to be able to repair pumps. I asked them for a quote but so far I found only one positive comment and few negative.

I don't want to underestimate Oli or anyone else but I can't understand why I have to pay a thousand pounds when the same units costs half of that abroad. Yes I know the price comes from MB and there's nothing he can do about it.

Got confirmation from these chaps:
BOSCH ABS / SBC Hydraulikaggregat, Bremsanlage 0 986 483 002

that the pumps are original bosch units. The price is 558 GBP + 12,90€ shipping.

I'm thinking to order one, they said it will arrive in two days. Your thoughts ?

Thanks.

Thanks!

Well, I can find my Bosch number along the OE number (s) under the description if that's enough. Sent them my details and asked if it will fit my car.

I am interested to know the outcome of this.

I know someone else who did similiar as you and in the end his pump could not be coded to him car which meant he had to return it to the supplier after many hours spent. Do make sure this pump is right one for your car spec as there are few different models.

Got back to me and said "item fits to car and OE number". What's more they offer 124EUR (£92) if I send them the old part. I will definitely go down this way and order one either today or tomorrow. Asked them again on the return policy and warranty. I'll keep you updated.

Watching this with great interest. Please keep us updated x 2.

That is rather good if we solve this puzzle, most of these cars will regain some of their lost values!!

As above Sve, keep us posted!

Thanks for the huge interest, I'm glad I can contribute somehow to the community!

Just got a reply - I can send them back the old one once it has been changed AND the unit has 24months warranty. I'm really busy today and will order it probably tonight or tomorrow. Still can't understand how it can cost around £300 less than Bosch Repair Service.

Now the other question is who can do the replacement and how much it will cost. Does the replacement really requires STAR as I'm reading it everywhere ? I had a conversation with one chap and he said he can replace it - he has done it once and didn't need STAR.

Thanks.

where you based? you can try Wayne gates (member here) in London and it does require STAR.

been told it cost around £200ish to code and fit etc

Edit - will there be custom duty charged for this delivery?
