The Power bootlid function has always been a bit hit and miss, sometimes didnt shut properly and opened halfway when shutting, sometimes needed a hand shutting completely .
When at one of the cars shows my bootlid started to get a bit over excited and started opening and shutting at twice the normal speed, narrowly avoided taking my arms and head off a few times!
after a bit of research all things pointed to the Trunk control unit, where MB brought out a revised part with updated software, STAR was showing open relay and drilling down pointed to the control unit.

after finally sourcing a 2nd hand unit, took 10 minutes to replace, all back to normal again, and noticeably smoother opening and shutting.
might be helpful to anyone who has similar issues going forward
