I have an 03 E Class 270cdi and the steering has started making a terribly loud groaning noise when I turn it whether i'm stood still or moving. You can feel this through the wheel and also hear it outside. What can this be please? I'ce checked the fluid and it's fine. And it doesn't sound like a belt either. :-/

Most likely the SBC pump, search via the menu at the top, loads of threads on this

Hi thanks for the reply. I've tried searching and can't find anything. Is this the power stering pump then?

It sounds very much like a lower swivel joint seizing up. It will need checking over by someone

Top up the power steering fluid level before you do anything else.
I had similar problem and a small quantity of fluid sorted it completely.

Hi I thought of that actually. Do you know whereabouts I would top it up as I can't seem to find the reservoir. Thamks Dan

Hi Dan
In mine it is under the engine cover on the front right as you stand at front and look at the engine.
Mine took very little to bring up to top level and it fixed the problem immediately.
