Evening All,

I have a couple of LED's not illuminating (the far r/h two) in the third, boot mounted brake light.

Does anyone know how easy it is to remove the unit, and more importantly can the LED's be replaced singly (as opposed to buying the entire 'strip')?

I've looked on here for some answers but cannot seem to find anything too relevant. The handbook states taking it to a dealer for replacement

Any advise much appreciated.

Thanks up front for any advice supplied.

Regards,

Alex

I think you would be looking at the strip rather than the individual emitters - unless you are adept at dismantling delicate plastic mountings, and soldering of course! Where you would actually acquire the correct replacement emitters is another question entirely.

I had to do this on a non-MB car in the recent past, and it was a piece of cake. Bootlid up, remove trim on inside of bootlid, undo bolts at either side of LED strip, undo connector block, and away. I doubt the MB will be vastly different?

Ive just done one ten minutes ago.

The part is £60 from the dealer.

To replace its easy, just remove the two plastic grommets by the light inside the boot lid and the plastic trim on the catch area...pull back the carpet and the rest is self explanatory.

Only thing is that you will have to destroy the plastic lens as it is stuck on pretty firm with double sided adhesive tape.
