W211 rear seat release

I have 2 levers on the boot and when you pull them they release the backrests and drop the headrests of the seats so they can be folded. However the drivers side fails and only drops the headrests. It beeps and then a message comes on the dash saying engage drivers side backrest. However I want to disengage it! Any ideas?

It seems as if it is not closed properly. Sit in the rear seat on jolt the backrest with your back hard and it should lock it I to place. Then you should be able to release it normally.
