W211 270CDI estate
Good afternoon

New to the site so please bear with me.........

Had my 2003 270CdI estate for a few years now but it looks as if I have the dreaded glycol problem - droning noise between 1400rpm & 2000rpm, juddering, hard gear changes etc etc.

Only noticed this over the past couple of weeks but definately getting worse.

My question is, what is the most appropriate course of action. Should I look to exchange the torque converter for a recon unit or bite the bullet and get a new one. I have had conflicting advice on both choices. The Indies always recommend a new unit but the recon route would keep my wife happy.

Also how long would the T/C last before it goes pop?

Many thanks

now i am not saying this is the same as my problem but around 2 years ago i started having a similar problem : generally juddering at 1400 rpm and lack of go ! I was told that torque conv was a dead en and would need changing ! At the time I wasnt too flush so thought that changing the fluid was worth a try and had an indie do this for me at cost of £130 inc filter etc . Car ran fine for about 30K mls and then problem returned , so new fluid . Bear in mind that both times only 3 ltrs changed so only partial. Since then car has done a further 100k ( yep its now on 251,000 ) and I bought a fluid pump so as needed i suck out 3 ltrs and refill ... costs me £30 each time but thats a whole lot less than £2500 i was quoted for a new torq conv !

My advice is to get it diagnosed firstly and get the ATF tested. Any MB specialist garage or MB dealer can do this.
