W211 SBC Brake System - Has mine been replaced previously?

use cruise control to slow down and speed up , save that precious SBC pump ... :)

Ok, so some conflicting views.

I found the following: W211 Recalls! - MBWorld.org Forums which mentions that SBC "A005" is the replacement for the first units with part numbers "A004". Going by this, wouldn't that also confirm that my SBC unit is the revised model too? (as A 005 is shown on mine).

The linked thread also mentioned that "a green round sticker on it is another indicator for a replacement unit (in-case it helps someone else).

Thanks and apologies for turning this into a long-winded thread.

Don't worry about it for now OP.

When you get a warning on the dash, (in white) go straight to a MB garage and they can connect your car to STAR and let you know if you need to replace the pump.

In the meantime enjoy the car.

Great, thanks everyone, much appreciated - it all seems to point to a replacement unit, back to enjoying the car ;)

That is what I do. The SBC pump must be considered in the same way as brake discs and pads.......a consumable item.
It's not pleasant to know that a (expensive) replacement may lay in wait, but I don't worry about it.
Enjoy the car and if it needs doing, the car is worth it.

Sure, good way of looking at it. Just noticed that you own an W211 E55! I've always wondered if it is worth the upgrade (added power aside), what do you reckon?

Try one and see Barnsey:D
Yes there is a fair difference with a lot more torque.
But if you are happy with your E500, stay as you are. The 55 probably has a bit harder suspension too.
I'd say there isn't much to choose between them in running costs.

^ I prefer to hear the noise of a V8 burning petrol thanks.
Never owned a diesel, never will.
I driven a few, mainly company vans and yes, they have torque. They also sound like a bag of nails on pulling away. No thanks:D
