    Hi all.

My 211 E280 CDI showed 4000+ miles to next service (B)

Trying to manage my money better; i came up with a cunning plan a couple of months ago...

I changed the oil and filter, air filters, and air pipe (includes both MAF sensors).

I then started keeping it garaged, to bring out only on the weekends and odd occasions... using my wife's 210 as our daily runner.

I was somewhat surprised when today it suddenly said; B service due in 29 days...

I thought doing the mini service myself would prolong the time to the next service? I've had the car just over a year and the last service (A) was done about 8 months ago...

    Wonder what's happened?

I'm guessing the car has no idea you've carried out any of that work and is working on the type of driving you've done ( distance, duration etc ) over the period of time and is therefore still asking for a service. Mine did similar ( went from around 3,000 miles to 30 days ) but I just take mine to a specialist and have it serviced as and when it asks for it.

What year is the car? 2007> they are on fixed yearly servicing so display mileage until next service, but 30 days before the service is due the display changes to days left till service.

Last service was A so it will now be due a B service with most likely a couple of additional mileage / time dependant items. Your service book will outline what these items are.

My pre-2007 car does have fixed service intervals, but at around 15 months, regardless of the very low mileage, it seems to just give up the ghost and go into the '28 days to next service' mode.

Incidentally, there have been no mechanical differences between pre 2007 cars and newer ones, in terms of servicing... the reason MB switched to fixed servicing was that fleet buyers and other purchase hire companies (where servicing is included in the deal) complained bitterly that the flexible service schedule is totally unpredictable and not manageable. So the fixed servicing now allows them to schedule vehicle servicing well in advance, and makes MB cars more attractive to business customers.

i have tier 1 warranty on my car and wonder if that would be subject to MB dealer servicing, or is it still upheld if i took it to an MB independent specialist?...

I rang my local stealer last week to get a quote for what i thought was an annual service, he said call them back when the assyst showed near a few hundred miles till the next service.

got 4000 odd miles to go till the next one!

FYI on the E55 its 2 years or 13,000 miles

Nothing to do with it being an E55. It is because it is a pre MY07 so it is on the older ASSYST PLUS variable servicing so can go upto 2 years without a service. As pointed out already nothing mechanically different so if your taking it out the dealer network you can just service it as if it was on ASSYST PLUS.

Bottom of this page has the info on the 3 different ASSYST systems Mercedes have used: http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/con...e/ownership/Service_and_maintenance.0013.html

Yep thats right, don't touch it or get anyone other than a dealer to touch it until its out of warranty, then work on it/get whoever you like to work on it afters.

The tier one warranty is good, I've had a new inlet port shut off motor, wheel bearing all free. Plus the use of a CLS and new shape E class. Must be two grands worth.

The CLS was lovely, and I wanted to hate it, but I loved it, big time.
