Hi
I’ve just all the ball joints replaced but now the noises have returned.
Are there common weaknesses elsewhere I should look at in my w211’s front suspension?
Many thanks

Theres so many joints on that set up. It can be the shock top mounts , the shocks themselves, anti roll bar bushes , anti roll bar links or anyone of the suspension arms. Good luck.

Hi

Did the noise go away when the ball joints were replaced?

There are a lot of very poor quality ball joints available out there, i now only buy OEM as last one I got from local factors did not last 5k miles before it had movement in it.

Yes, the noise went away and I’ve been trying to drive gently. They were only changed 1.5k ago.

I have experienced the same albeit on a Mondeo mk4. cheap drop links didn’t last 500 miles before the rubber boots split and there was play. I always go OEM now. But Eddie if you used OEM parts I would think they would be fine unless incorrectly installed in some way.

The garage fitted them so unsure of the quality .
Thank you

Ah ok in that case it could be worth a call to the garage to check. If the symptoms are the same as you had before they were replaced that would be a logical first step. And if they have failed prematurely I would think you would have every right for the garage to replace them, after only 1500 miles.

You say all ball joints. Which ones ?

Two upper, two lower ball joints.
£570 in total [emoji85]

At that price, it will be motor factor parts (not OEM).

I find OEM parts do last longer than motor factors parts.

I've priced those parts oem £186 . The rest was labour.

Thanks. Was going to attempt it myself but garage said I would have struggled without oxy.

The lower ball joints can be a bit of a pain if they are the original ones. It’s not a nice situation to be in if you are struggling on a driveway, with timing running out (low light and temperatures dropping).

Start at 8 am then. Hour n a half each side is ample.

Oem as in lemforder . Trw , etc just with a mb star on the box. ?

Indeed with the star badge :)

I will retract what I said, as I do still use motor factor parts for other cars (friends and family). So nothing wrong with Lemforder, Pagid, etc.
