W211 Uneven Tyre Wear

Hi,

My 09 W211 280CDI Avantgarde has covered circa 18k miles and needs new rear tyres. However, the tyre wear on both tyres is very uneven. The inside / middle of the tyre is on the limit, but the outside edge still has lots of life (both sides appear to be wearing in exactly the same way). Is heavier tyre wear on the inside normal for this model?

Centre of tread wear is a normal trait for RWD Mercedes cars. It sounds like either the rear toe or camber are out of spec.

As per dieselman, mine always did that. If you have the same sized tyres on the front then rotate them every 5000 or so miles and it'll even the wear, though it will put you in the situation of needing to buy 4 tyres at the same time albeit at longer intervals.

Wear in the centre of the tread can also indicate tyre pressure that's too high - certainly worth checking that you're running at the correct pressures.
