I normally tend to keep an eye on my engine and over the last few weeks have noticed a general build up of dirt around the turbo and one morning there was a minor 'incident' where the car juddered for a moment under acceleration.

I've finally got around to cleaning up the engine this afternoon and have found the following:

I'll order up and fit a replacement, but this is the second on this car after the first appeared to have somewhat split under just the intake being removed and re-fitted, this one was fitted 100% correct and without issue and is probably no more than 10-15k miles old.

I'm hoping that this isn't likely to have caused any damage to the engine as it shouldn't have entered the turbo. But the part itself doesn't seem up to the job? Any one else have similar issues?

Common fault, mines had 3 now!

Best replace em with every Air filter change!

Mine judders slightly always between 20-30mph or low revs.

I have a 03 e270

Well I'm not very happy with MB over this, the part is less than 2 years old and is covered by warranty, however they would want the car in to strip it down and inspect / diagnose it.

I can't afford the time out to do that and they'll probably come up with some reason not to pay up so it's cost me £32.83 for a rubber ring and that's after goodwill discount! No doubt it'll be in the same condition in another year's time.

So is this easy to get to and look at?

We have the same name and looking at your profile pic we gave same colour car.

Yes it's very easy to get out, it's just a few screws to undo the air intake to each air filter and the one around the turbo then it pulls straight out, re-fitting is a bit more tricky to make sure a good fitment with each filter but nothing difficult.

there is a modified part for this (i discovered my 211's pipe cracked and oil dripping down onto the port inlet manifold motor cover). i changed both the pipes and the seal...
no trouble since.

That looks like it has split due tot eh clamp being tightened too tight on installation.

Hi rascalmaster,

I can see from the service history on my 320CDI that its had its port inlet motor replaced in the past, the turbo seal is leaking and I am going to replace it I was wondering is there any visual way to tell the old inlet pipes vs. the new part as I am unsure if it’s was updated when the motor changed.

Thanks

E.

I've had the same problem where the car stutters u der hard acceleration but if you back off and then put the foot down again it generally pulls away okay but if you keep the foot down when it stutters is looses all acceleration. Nothing happens when you put the foot down but if turn off and on again seems to clear. Thought it was a mass airflow sensor problem but replaced it and same thing still happening!

What is this actual part as it sounds like this could be my issue too?

It's not that Meister as my seal is only 1K old. Mine does the stuttering and is going in for a new Turbo as the electronics on the Turbo housing are breaking down under hard acceleration.

The electronics cannot be bought separately so it's a new Turbo.

What I notice is that the revs drop on mine then the judder starts around 20mph. It is not always only only one judder/jolt. Not all the time and does not last long. My dad seems to think it happens more when cold.

Sometimes if going along at any speed the revs will slightly jump up and down. But not jolt or anything.

I would try and clean egr valve but not sure how.

Get it a star machine to find out what's wrong...

Yes; chances are it would have been replaced with the updated part.
The old pipe had one cut for contracting when the jubilee clip is tightened... the new part has 4 cuts for better compression...
Sure way to require a new mort inlet manifold motor would be if oil drips from a badly fitted/ loose/ damaged air pipe to the turbo... Whwn it leaks through the plastic case; it's game over! :-(

Mines is in my brothers garage now so will let you know what it could be. He had given it to merc specialist yesterday for "star" diagnostic. May need turbo but also could just be small sensor (will find out what actual sensor is later). Sensor only costs £30ish so they're going to try that first.

Yes, it's worth replacing the pressure sensor for what it costs but unfortunately in my case and many others it was the Turbo.

I think I've got exactly the same issue. Would it be possible to re-upload the pictures when you've got a min. Many thanks.

rascalmaster, do you know the part numbers for those items? Many thanks.

Hi will dig around in the file... but best way is o go to the pare parts dept at MB and give them your VIN no... They'll bring up an exploded diagram on the computer and help you identify exactly what you need ;-)
Don't forget to politely ask for a discount... I've had 20% off just by asking.
