W212 6.2l e63 - options + mileage game

Got the car back and it has slightly cracking rear tyres as an MOT advisory so those poor pirellis are sadly going to get used as crayons on the asphalt.

Great pricing on asda for the rears
The engine mounts seem to make a difference and the chassis feels more solid but i could be imagining it. I've been driving the car mainly in sports plus these days and it loves to wag its tail all the time especially in this autumn weather. A very very impressive car and engine. The rawness and hydraulic steering do make for a great driving experience.Overall I hope I dont get the daft idea to trade this for a s213 , I'll stay away from autotrader as the 213 itch has been there for a years now

What type/brand did you go for?
The bosch branded ones, didn't do the bulk buy from spr

If your engine mounts were not leaking and totally collapsed to begin with you won’t feel a drastic change. I recently changed mine and it raised the engine and made it slightly smoother, that’s it.

For the tyres, I recommend Goodyear F1 Supersport as an alternative to PS4S. I’m on my second set and all I can say is that they’re an excellent tyre.

That is good pricing, I’m about to be on n the market for 4 new Michelins, the P-Zeroes on mine are now sufficiently worn to make them twitchy in this weather (not that they were great when they were new either). Can’t wait to get rid….

I think we'll all be lost without Autotrader. Other sites include carandclassic followed by rightmove, and not forgetting mbclub.co.uk 🙂

I had them on the rear wheels of my m157 , they were v good but with a harsher ride than the pirellis they replaced, ofcourse grip was much better but those sidewalls are v firm. Soon got used to them, then when I stuck mps4s on the front , the turn in felt rubbery before they loaded up vs the pirellis but both those brands were much better grip wise than the pirellis. I'm likely to go for mps4s on the rear of this car but my m3 will get conti sport contact 7s all round when I need to replace those. The contis are top of my list but they don't do the 19 3x 285 size unfortunately

I’m hoping for continental to release the size. I’ve seen great reviews

I've got a total of 10 tyres to replace soon, 4 on my wife's smart forfour BS , 4 on my m3 and 2 on my 212 but just remembered I have winter tyres and rims that I could stick on the m3 for the next 6 months

Fingers crossed
How long have you had your 6.2

You have a Smart ForFour Black Series too?

I live my Mercedes-AMG ForFour AMG Sport Plus Black Series Night Edition Premium Plus 125 Navi facelift powered by Brabus.

I would love to say i have one, but alas it was a push present for my wife. The mb dealer nicked it from the port at customs from another garage in the franchise network. And as expected she wanted the blue one rather than the red one ... Smart sls gull wing Maybach black series brabus Sport. 12500 miles in 7 years !

I stuck on continental SC 7s on my M3 and have been blown away. In freezing temps on cold tyres coming out of junctions and apart from minimal slip, they just grip. I've been pushing the car in cold weather and barely notice any slip. Can't wait to see what they're like in the summer. They're good in the wet too, and i think the turn in feels slightly less rubbery than the MP4S .
It's a real pity they don't do the same size as the 19inch rears on the w212 e63.

Minor update, I've been test driving some s213 E63s estates as the boot on this saloon is a bit too small for our road trips etc and theres some low mileage ones about. The boot is a great size for a saloon but I need even more space. That all being said and having driven a few of the 213s, it makes me appreciate this dinosaur even more. But boy the beauty of this 6.2 is when you red line it and it shifts up, you get the most raucous sound. It pulls hard too through the whole rev range and drives so well, I'm almost minded to abandon the estate search because of how this car hits the sweetspot.

I might be one of the few that likes pops and bangs and pumped engine sounds, that i think is one of the better qualities of the 213 platform. The facelift 2018 with the OPF is a bit too muted I think but you still get pops and bangs which are so childish but so enjoyable. All that being said , the modest exhaust set up on the 212 seems louder towards the red line and more manic , ofcourse on these test drives i haven't managed to drive the 213 the same way.

I'm 60% in favour of keeping the 212, and sticking long tube headers on it. Its got great options too. Ive also got massaging seats, distronic , performance pack, LSD etc. its hitting all the right notes and the interior is pristine. Sure the 213 is an electronic marvel with expansive displays and a cabin that looks super modern and AWD and spectacular performance but this old dinosaur is just as good in its own way.

I like the factory exhaust of my E63. Here is an example for long tube headers and straight pipes. This car was for sale when I was looking for mine. I loved the designo mystic blue colour (there are only 2 in the UK as far as I know) but it was in a rough shape inside and out. And the exhaust modification was not for me.

You do get the pops and bangs, you can provoke them easily enough but you do need to be fairly aggressive on the throttle.

You’re right though, with the OPF it’s too quiet. I’d love to make mine louder, wondering if 200 cel sport cats might be the answer. Not sure if they’re legal in the U.K. though 🤷‍♂️

This is a bit illegal, worth a watch though 🙂

Another video to help 213 owners, not sure if the CATs are intact though 🤔.

I don't mind the 12 year old cereal ( snap crackle and pop, Rice Krispies, but Im not a fan at all of the car exhaust version. I personally think they ruin a cars exhaust note in a big way! Sound stupid in my opinion!

The amount of times I’ve watched this video is crazy (months ago lol), it’s what got me thinking about making mine louder in the first place. The workmanship on that system is exquisite.
