W212 E220
Hello all,

New member here. I've had a W212 E220 for about 5 years now, in that time replaced both rear airsprings, ride height sensors, compressor. and relay. Possibly the valve block as well, can't remember. Last week I parked at the office as usual, car was fine then when I went out at lunchtime I got about 100 yards down the road and found that the back of the car had dropped right down. I should emphasise this happened once the car was in motion, it was fine when I got into it. Putting the key in brought up the "vehicle rising" message on the dashboard, but no activity from the compressor.

I limped back to the office and left it there. At the weekend I jacked it up, took both wheels off and was able to confirm that the height sensors on both sides were still ok and intact. I put the wheels back on, then whilst it was still jacked I tried turning it on again. On this occasion it all worked perfectly, brought itself back up to the correct height and I was able to drive home. It was fine all weekend, drove to work again this morning, all still fine. Got in it to get some lunch, and exactly the same thing happened again; I left the car park and the suspension dropped.

I'm baffled. I don't think it's a leak, as when pumped up it has stayed up and the drop happened within seconds of being mobile. The car park is on a slight slope; last week I parked facing down, this morning I parked facing up.

Any suggestions welcome!

It's not throwing up any new fault codes; there were a couple of historic ones, namely 556884, vehicle level outside tolerance, but I cleared these and they haven't reappeared.

Today I started it up and it worked fine, pumped back up to ride height so I've managed to drive home with no problems. I had noticed previously that the compressor wasn't running when the vehicle rising message was on, so yes I will check its wiring. I have a replacement relay coming tomorrow too just in case.
