Well, spoke to MB about the new winter tyre deal.

£1670 for 4 alloys and pirelli 245/40/R18 97H. The alloys are the Sinnif ones from MB.

So I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but are there any other options which would work out more reasonable?

don't think you can get steel wheels for the 350CDI Sport. Manual also says nein to snow chains.

I was thinking of other tyre /wheel size options

may be cheaper if you went for 17" wheels instead?

Don't get this.

An E class W212 sport has 245/40/18 fronts and 265/35/18 rears.
The alloys are 18x8.5 front and 18x9 rear.

The manual says AMG/ sports versions should have 245/40/18 f+r.

Will 245's fit on a 18x9 rear alloy?

I have the same car. The option i went for was to buy winters (Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme) and save the summers for later (march-april say). I got mine fitted by MB and when i need the summers fitted on again they put them on for me FOC. The issue now is getting the 265 rears if you finally need them (hope 245's are ok for you). They are like rocking horse doo dah.
Any way when you get a set fitted you will be so happy i can promise you.

That's a good price providing they can deliver...
2454517 in limited supply and so 18" work out cheaper...

did you get 245/40/18 all round or staggered with 265/35/18 rears?
My question is will 245's fit on my rear alloys (18x9)

not an MB sanctioned configuration but it'll be ok. Biggest downside is losing the rim protection.
The MB Sinnif wheelset will be 18x8.5 all round with 2454018

I got staggered tyres the same size as the summer tyres. I did ask about smaller width tyres on another set of alloys and they said that they would not fit over the sports break callipers. I would check with MB if the 245 will fit. If it does not then it is not your fault.

That is what I thought but these MB sinnif alloys are sold as 8.5 fronts and 9 rears, which makes me think MB are fitting 245 on 9x18 rears

"sold as" > meaning that an optional wider rear is available.
They'll be supplied as 4x Q44013171192E (stocked in UK)
18x8.5 Sinnif with 2454018 W210 Sottozero Serie II MO RRP £417.46 inc VAT

Thanks. That all makes sense now.
Anyway, there's no winter tyres anywhere as far as I can tell unless you're willing to pay top dollar.

For winter tyres try TYRES ONLINE , that's where I managed to source them for our GL. Took approx 3 days to arrive from Germany somewhere....

that'll teach me for being helpful and posting part numbers on forums! Just went to order some and now unavailable!

update,
Got my set from MB main dealer. The service support was excellent.

Did not go for the cheapest option (these came in at £1256 (245/45/17) with 10 spoke alloys). Apparently out of stock till next winter...... They had some nicer alloys which were a bit more. I preferred the better alloys. Still 245/45/17. Total came to £1446.

Not bad for main dealer prices and got main dealer levels of customer service.

Interesting fact is the moving from 18 to 17's, there is v little difference in the ride. Probably slightly less bumpy but it is really hard to tell. It could just be psychological as everyone says 17's are softer.

PS Temps here are 4-6 degC, therefore will keep them on for a a few weeks before switching back.

Also called LV and no problems with insurance. In fact they said I did not even need to inform them.
