I need to tackle the tricky issue of audio unit removal pretty soon, to fit the iPOD interface.

Surveying the task, and assuming that the vent module above the Audio 20 is the first bit to remove, it causes me some concern.

The thin polished aluminium trim that runs over the top of the vent module, continues seemlessly along the top of the machined ally trim that is fixed above the glove box. So it seems that all this thin polished ally trim must be pulled off in one go, and I expect this could go horribly wrong.
Has anyone already tackled this thorny issue in a W212?

Didn't take long before y'all started taking your new cars apart.:D:D

Whatever you do, photograph it because you may well be one of the first.

Well I was always one of those kids that took their new toy to bits - nothing's changed

I was always like that. Unfortunately most of the things I took to pieces as a kid rarely fitted back together again :o

Did you manage to remove the dash?

Not tried yet (prob a good job as I'm taking the car in to check out a rattle tomorrow - so if I'd been doing DIY on the dash, I guess I may have compromised the warranty in that respect).

I bought the iPOD kit off another forum member, but stupidly thought it may offer the same connection choice as the media interface I had in the SLK, i.e. a USB connection (you get so used to people using brand names for generic terms (Hoover etc.) that I just took 'iPOD interface' to mean any MP3 type device.

I don't own an actual iPOD, so began to wonder if the best solution would be to retro fit a 6 disc changer (there's one on eBay for £219 from a new W212), but ironically I have just ordered an iPOD Touch 32GB of Amazon only yesterday - your timing of breathing new life into this old thread is amazing!

So when MB have sorted the rattle (I'm sure it's n/s front suspension although it sounds like it's coming from the front n/d door) then I'll have to give the radio removal a try :(

ahh good luck, its good you have the ipod now then :)
hope they get the rattle sorted and dont forget some pics please ;)

Why don't you ask them to show/tell you how to remove the trim? I'm sure they wont hold it against you when you still have the rattle :D

The large horizontal trim above the glovebox is the tricky bit - it has several (3?) clips behind it that need pulling down before you can unclip the trim.
