When I am driving and put the car into 2nd gear, the indicator on my dash will tell me to change to 2nd, but I am already in 2nd gear. when I let off the accelerator the car is jumpy. Until I take it out of gear and put back in. Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this?.

FYI, its not just limited to 2nd gear, that's just an example, will do it in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Bump

I would like to advise but dont understand your problem.

As above, my indicator will tell me to change to 2nd gear (I am already in 2nd), then when I let my foot off the accelerator the car becomes jumpy until I take it out of gear and out it back in.

For the car to advise on gear selection, it requires a sensor to know which gear is currently selected. I would suggest that this sensor is failing.

Many cars use a mathematical calculation based on road speed and revs to determine current gear selection, but perhaps Mercedes fit an actual position switch in the gear selector. The fact that moving the gearstick out of, and back into 2nd fixes the issue suggests that there is a physical sensor in the gear selector.

I would get the car's fault codes read on diagnostics, or failing that, try and access the fundamentals of the gear selector to see if you can see a position sensor underneath the gear gaiter and centre console.

Martin.

Engine mounts, dual-mass flywheel, prop-shaft coupling ?

I have it booked in at a German car specialist on the 28th to determine the problem.

I also have a 6 speed manual blue efficiency with the change up indicator. This is an economy device to advise the most efficient revs to change up for best fuel consumption. From my observation it must be based on a combination of RPM and load. so that for example it will advise a change up at higher revs on a hill than it does on the flat.

It's an advisory device so can be ignored but if yours is advising a change when it shouldn't then there must be an underlying problem either with the ECU or more likely a sensor that the ECU relies on to make the change up decision. If you are lucky it could just be a sensor that tells the ECU what gear you are in.

Yeah, but what I can't work out is why the car is jumpy with the accelerator. Its really hard to explain. Its like the sensitivity of the pedal goes through the roof.
