Hi there after hijacking a different thread and then using it as my own I thought that the right thing to do is to open my own thread where I can ask questions more freely in how to put the OM642 back together ( what goes where screws etc as I'm a bit lost at the moment with everything off ) I'll add all the pictures except the videos that I have from the disassembly so you can have a look and compare to yours. They will not be professional pictures its mostly random pictures as this is my first time doing this job. I know I should've taken more pictures and be more organised but hey you live and learn and this is a good chance to interact with the community.

Today I installed the oil cooler gaskets but torqued them at 16 nm instead of 12 nm should I take them off and do 12 nm (has to be tomorrow) or they are fine like they are? I will be posting photos as I go along tomorrow.

It was definitely your oil cooler leaking then! Did you fit a new cooler or refit the original? 16nm is fine. It’s not worth undoing it for that small error.
I usually fit a new cooler, as it’s not a job you really want to do twice

I installed the old one with new gaskets does the oil cooler actually leak or its just the gaskets? I haven't bought a new oil cooler as I thought I don't need a new one.

It will probably be fine. When you are doing these things as a business you need to offer a guarantee. I don’t want to have to do the job a second time for free.

I'm just a car enthusiast that loves to work on his cars (W124 E200 1994 and W124 250D 1992) in his drive so the only guarantee that I need is mine :)

LE: Most jobs that I do I research online in how to then I attempt to do it :)
LLE: Do oil coolers generally fail / crack or what would be the reason for replacement? TY

They can become corroded on the bottom face where the seals sit; corrosion on the underside can lift the body of the cooler up, weakening the seals; they can fail internally, usually letting oil into the cooling system. None are common. Not unheard of though

So did a bit more work today and here where I managed to get with the assembly also i manage to break off this little thing does anyone know the part number for it or how to search for it on EPC? thanks.
I still have all the connections to connect and also there are 2 screws behind the turbo that i missed i'll take out again tomorrow to install them.

Found the item that i need to replace seems to be this: A2124301829

Ok guys a few updates, got the car back together started the car and to my luck i forgot to tighten the screws on top of the turbo and lost all oil (not a bit problem as i was going for a oil change) now i added some oil after i've tighten the screws but the car just cranks over but it will not start how long does it normally take to start after this job or is there a sensor something that it preventing the car to start as it has a lot of oil in the oil cooler area?

So i scanned the car again and i got these. Now is this a case of taking everything apart cleaning the area and putting everything back together or might be that some connections from somewhere came loose?

Hmm, I’d check your fuses and make sure you haven’t left an earth tag unbolted somewhere

Is it possible that my crankshaft position sensor to be full of oil and that's what preventing the car from starting? Also where is it located as i'm tempted to take it off cleaning it and putting it back together.

It’s well away from where you’ve been working. About 2 o’clock on the bellhousing as you look from the front

You have a big list of fault codes there. I’d be looking for something common to the lot, like a 5v supply or an earth

As i previous said the car started on the 4th crank after i did the oil cooler change but i forgot to tighten 2 screws on the turbo (the T40 or whatever they are) and oil started coming out and probably went all over the bellhousing soaking the sensors.

Ok, but I think it’s unlikely

Tomorrow I'm going to try and take the crankshaft sensor out to clean it and try again I'll also have a look at the wires again and see if I missed something.

Replaced the crankshaft sensor still no joy i'm kinda lost at this point any advice from a experienced member in what to check next or what if i missed something or what could cause the car the crank over and over and over and not fire up? ty

Few updates, got the car started in the end but the car now start a bit harder than before and it goes into limp mode. Also in limp mode the gear changes don't seem to change properly is this because of limp mode and there's no boost at all the errors that i currently have and they don't seem to clear are as followed in the picture any ideas?

Check the fuses in the fuse box in the end of the dash, driver’s side. It wouldn’t surprise me if you have a blown one.

W212… could be in the underbonnet fuse box. It’s late and I’m not at work…
