W212 e350 cdi - oil leaking - suspect crankshaft oil seal ?

PCV and turbo seem dry on the surface at least. Regarding the leak i get a few wet spots on my driveway every day from it.

So I took my car to the dealership and they quoted me a estimate of £3000 repair for the oil cooler replacement/fix after the diagnostic and confirming that the oil cooler is the issue.

LE: I also have the car booked in at the dealership for the airbag replacement and the firmware update (can't do one without the other) its for a recall on my car hopefully no limp mode after update :)

A good independent Merc specialist like PCS Hordean or MB Automotive in Loughborough (because I use those two) would charge around £800-1000+ for oil cooler deals depending on what you wanted changed at the time (e.g. a new cooler or swirl flap motor also worth considering). £3k is laughable.

I would also be asking somewhere like PCS if they can do the airbag recall without doing the software update. I’d pay a few low £hundreds to not have the software update myself as it’s such an unknown quantity, but it might be fine. If you get it done, please report back 👍

3k buddy , Madre de Dios !!! :eek::eek::eek:
As @MrGreedy says , save yourself £2200 at an Indy

I have it booked on the 28th of this month i'll post back the results after the update.

LE: I'm talking about the firmware and airbag not the oil cooler replacement :) I would like to do it myself but the weather doesn't seem appropriate to tare down the engine ( I don't have a garage)

Hi, so I kind of decided to do the work myself I think it will be a good experience. I started to add parts that I might need to replace while doing the job I also added prices for each item (Mercedes Benz Germany prices).
I've might missed a few items or added some that I don't need could someone more experienced correct my list with the extra screws or gaskets/seals that I might missed thank you.

LE: I ordered this A6420910150 that's why I didn't added the item to the list thanks again and looking forward to hear from you guys.

Hi its been about a week since my firmware update, everything seems to be fine so far might have a higher fuel consumption or its just a placebo effect ill keep you updated.

So as i was taking apart my car today to do the oil cooler i found out that i was missing a gasket ( was not installed by the previous mechanic that worked on the car) and i think that my oil leak problem is from that gasket. Now since i got this far should i continue and do the oil cooler gaskets since i started to do so or put the gasket on this and call it a day (took me nearly 6 hours to get to the point where im just about to take the inlet manifold, fuel lines off)

Can you clean that part up and take a few close ups of the mating surface for us please . Not sure what's going on there with the smaller orifice . has there been a repair ?

Both holes look like cholesterol clogged artery cross sections. Is that amazing amounts of gunky oil deposit, or is it a repair as suggested by Petrol Pete?
It looks odd.

Here are some close up pictures.

LE: I do not know if any repairs being done but some bolts were quite lose like someone was in there but didn't tighten them properly. I owned the car for almost 6 years now and for the time its been with me it hasn't had any engine work.

It’s a metal shim gasket between the turbo and the turbo pedestal. There is another metal shim gasket between the pedestal and the engine block. They have extensions at each end to clip them in place for fitting. The one that goes between the pedestal and the engine clips to the pedestal. The one between the pedestal and the turbo clips to the turbo. The latter has been there at some stage, as the circular witness around the larger drain port attests

Fwiw, if the gasket was missing it’d be absolutely peeing out

Don’t reuse them. One time only
Bought new ones I was just a bit surprised when I didn't see it when I took it off but I'm replacing every gasket that I touch on my way to the oil cooler.

LE: Just hope that I can put it back together one all is said and done :))

You’ll be fine. Plenty of people here who’ve done it, so don’t be afraid to ask if you are unsure about anything

How did this turn out in the end? Was it the oil cooler seals or read main?

Hi, it was the oil cooler and I've replaced them but I've encountered more issues that I should have but all good in the end.
