So yesterday we did our first long trip in the E350. Five people, two dogs and two bikes on a rack on the back. Also a boot full of Christmas luggage (one dog was in the back with the luggage). Tyres on 33/49 as recommended by the fuel flap card.

250 miles of motorway and A-road at an average of 63MPH, and it managed 38.7MPG. Having never got better than 27 out of our 3L Espace, I'm stoked :)

I had virtually talked myself into a E350CDI BE of maybe 2 years age to replace the E250CDi BE (W212).

I average high 50's at those speeds/distances.

Now I need to do the math-mans and justify why an approx adverse 20MPG is a good thing.

Lastly if anyone is regularly cruising at 80ish in a 350CDi BE could you share MPG as the 250 is seeing 45-47MPG, even in this weather. Thx.

I have 2012 350CDI not BE (well no badges but have start stop etc). On long runs at 80-85 I average 38. Dash says 40. Overall including some short work I have 32mpg in the last year

The E350 CDi 265 I had would easily do 38-42mpg locally and over 55mpg on a 75mph run.

That's double what the 420 did. :D

Appreciate the numbers - need them for my man-maths. ;)

Mine is an estate. Even at 65 I haven't bettered 43mpg

Mine's an estate. Long run, not going mental on the motorway I'm 42-43mpg. Bumming around is nearer 32mpg. Average over 12k since new is 35.6mpg. Best I've ever managed on a non-motorway long run is 46-37mpg.

.

My wifes is at 33mpg 80% urban over 8k miles.

So, bought the 350 and have eventually got around to the brim-to-brim test.

Unbelievably, managing 54MPG. It is at a rocky steady 60mph over mostly motorway to and from work (41miles each way).

Will try it at 80 out of curiosity. Promise to take less than 4 years to report back.

I managed 45mpg in a 1994 s124 E300D Estate on a motorway trip to Wales at 50-60mph. This car wasn't that bad even by today's standards. However, the 2016 s205 C200 SE Estate manages 50mpg+under the same conditions. That's 22 years of electronics and smaller engine sizes for you. I do believe that the s124 would have outlasted anything but for my other half.
