Hi all,

I'm a new member to this forum. I've recently purchased a W212 2012 with 7G tronic gearbox. It looks like the gearbox jerks when it's cold and not sure if this is a right behaviour.

I took the car to a Mercedes specialist which has carried a service on the gearbox, also removed the valve body assembly unit, checked all the solenoids and everything seems fine. Plugged in Star and no codes stored and also reset the adaptions but still the same issues, straight after resetting adaptions the gearbox jerked in every gear until eventually calmed down and now it's exactly the same as before.

Literally in the morning or in the afternoon, if the car hasn't been started during the day, for the first 5 minutes when changing from 1st to 2nd gear it jerks, especially when going uphill or downhill.

I really need help, as it drives me nuts and not sure what else to do.

Thank you.

A few people have posted about this very problem in the past.
Mine used to be like yours until the last service where my main dealer did gearbox fluid change and updated the 7g+ software.
I now have a gear change that's almost unnoticeable whether cold or hot.

Welcome to the Forum.

It is a known characteristic of these gearboxes. some behave this way, others do not.

Mine behaves like this in cold weather, in warmer weather (above 14 Deg C) it is always smooth. I have checked that mine has the updated software, it has, and for error codes (none present) and have had a full ATF and filter change by PCS which smoothed out the changes overall but has not stopped the jerk when cold.

It is irritating but there seems that there is nothing to do about it

I'll update the software on it and are how it goes. Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot :).

Well I can live with it but the thing is that, other people say it only happens when downshifting not upshifting like mine though, which is a bit concerning for me.

Try this, reset gearbox back to factory settings.
1, get in car close door, hàve all electrics off.
2, turn ignition to on, do not start car. Ignition lights are on.
3, press accelerator pedal to floor depressing kick down.
4, keep pressed down for at least ten seconds.
5, still keeping pedal down, turn ignition off, do not remove key.
6, release accelerator pedal, wait two minutes.
7, start car and drive how you would normally.
This should reset gearbox back to factory, it should then learn your normal driving style.

Interesting thread. Sorry to jump on but how does one update the 7g+ software?

Let us know how you get on with your gearbox.

Cheers!

That always works perfect for me
