Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum so hopefully someone can help me.

I have just recently bought a 2010 E350 CDI SPORT 5 door.

The problem I have is the drivers side heated seat bottom doesn't work. The back works perfectly fine.

I've checked under the seat with a torch and can't see anything like a loose of frayed wire

I'm thinking the heating element is broke but cant be sure is there anything I can do to confirm this?

I called Mercedes Nottingham and they have said a replacement element is £115.

So my next question is, Is the element stitched into the seat or just stuck down with some tape?

I have attached a picture of my seats 20181229_214212.jpg

Well I think you car does not have them stitched in to the seat, but if you are going to attempt to fix this yourself always disconnect the battery, and as most people know that the heated bottom heater elements are always damaged by kids jumping on them of the driver kneeling on the seat to do something in the car,you can change it with the seat in the car you just lean the back down and undo the bolts holding the base, there has to be a thread on this site,I seem to remember somebody posting pictures of how to do it,suggest you put in the space at the top of this page" heated seat pads"

w212 element is part of the padding, mb should supply the padding with the elements on it.

I am retrofitting rear heated seats and this is how they are made uip

There are two elements in the base of some W212. One does the centre, and one does the front and the bolsters. They are separate to the covers.

Thanks all I think I might have sourced a replacement seat. Just waiting on the seller to confirm that all the elements are working before I order if not I'm going to order it off mercedes directly and tackle it myself I'll try and do a search on here and find a how to before going in all guns blazing

Looks like I'm going to be ordering the heat pad from mercedes directly and tackling it myself.

Hi there,

How did you get on? I have a w212 with all 'base'/bottom elements not working on the driver's side (back and side bolsters), and then on the passenger's side everything is working but the 'base'/bum bit; the back, side bolsters, lower sides and the 'front' of the seat (under thigh) work well.

Trying to figure out how hard this is to DIY, and the cost of the replacements!

Cheers,

Ed

I've only just got around to buying the element today so most likely going to tackle this on the weekend with some help from my Dad.

I bought the element from Mercedes. It was £117 special order so they won't let you return if it's not the issue. So fingers crossed.

Ah, good luck!

Does the element cover all of the 'base' or are they separate parts? I assume you bought the main 'bum' bit.

Cheers!

Cheers I'm going to need it. I'm a complete novice! But with a little how to guide found on this site I'm sure I'll be ok.

The element I ordered was just for the base part. People say it's called the Squob/squib not sure of the correct wording.

Thanks for that, really helpful - although it does seem a bit daunting. I am used to working on my car, engine etc, but for some reason upholstery and heated seats seems more difficult to me, to get that 'OEM' finish!

I'm currently waiting for MB to look into some stuff on my car, I'm going to ask the parts department about the different elements for the base part, and the costs etc.

Good luck, please post back on your progress :-)

Was just at the dealer - just to confirm that the element for the 'bum' base is a separate element to the 'sides and thigh' element. They are both £98+VAT for the parts alone.

So £240-odd for me for the drivers side, and then £120 for the passenger on my car. And that's without fitting!

Hmmm.. something to think about. Hope this info is useful to someone!

Cheers,

Ed

Ok I've had an issue and can't seem to get my head round it. So I followed the steps above which are spot on until I get to the electrical connector for the seat. I can't seem to get it off! (White and black block in the pic)Plus the new heated seat element connector looks totally different to the one in the car. So please can someone have a look at the pics I have posted and tell what's what or what I'm doing wrong or even if the part I've got from Mercedes is not correct.

Thanks as always

Ok so I know where the connector fits into. There is another socket in the seat which it connects too. Just need to get the black and white sockets out now!

Well done! Can I ask - do the different elements (Back, sides, base, etc) have different connections?

Sorry to hijack - but I am asking on the 0.1% off chance that there are fuses or cabling issues that have made the elements stop working!

Anyway, keep the pictures coming!
