Got a question.

W212 E350 Cdi Saloon registered in 2010.

I paid for the 1st service and then bought a service plan (4 services).

My gearbox number is 722902 02 563236

At the 36000 mile service done in 2013 the ESS says

"Service 20 Once every 31000 miles/3 years
Automatic transmission: carry out oil and filter change (with transmission 722.9-NAG2).

This has been crossed (x) on the ESS report and when I asked was told it was not done as my specific transmission did not need it.

I was just looking at the ESS at next years B service and it says

Service 20 - Once at 77,500 miles/5 years
Automatic transmission: Carry out oil and filter change (With transmission 722.9 - NAG2-FE+)

I'm a bit suspicious. When i purchased the service plan I was told it would need a transmission oil change and that was part of the cost analysis favouring purchasing the service plan.

Any comments. Was I shortchanged?

TIA

Can't help you with your question but am interested to find out what answers you get as my E class coupe is due a B service soon. The car has done around 37000 miles and I can see it coming as I take it in. (Good morning sir your car needs the gear box oil changing on this service.) I did not take out a service plan the 1st time I have not might live to regret it

I think you can get the SP anytime. Different price for 2nd hand and new though.

My last service on SP due, gonna go independent after that

Yes you are correct but more expensive on 2nd hand than new. Don't know why as a service is a service so I thought ;(

Feedback

Sent an email to MB customer service 4 weeks ago via the website.

MB forwarded the request to the dealer who called me and reaffirmed that some auto boxes did not need oil change as it was a lifetime unit. Their data said I had one of those units. However he did say that the query has gone to MB Germany and he would get back to me once the final opinion was given.

A week later I get a call that MB say it should have been changed. They were very apologetic and have booked the car in to do it asap.

Goes it show, its worth rechecking things. Personally, I'm glad this got cleared up as I was on a service contract so won't be paying additional.

The car is a keeper and will be 5y old after the next service (last on the service contract).

I'm very tempted to go independent after that

When I first bought my W211 it was 3 n half years old with 52k on it. The service record said it had had its g/box oil n filter done at 44k. My local Indy and good friend serviced it when I got it and said it had never been touched. Gearbox was so much smoother after the oil change. He even used Merc oil n filter which wasn't that expensive.

My 2011 E350 Sport has done 39500 miles, so may need auto box oil change is it straight forward like the W211 or is it a specialist task?

I think it is specialist but would like to be told it is not

feedback, gearbox oil changed.
Noticed change in car behaviour almost immediately. Its subtle but there is a definite increased urgency to the gear changes.

All in all happy with service from MB

My W212 E350 had an A service atjust under 3 years 36K miles and had gearbox oil & filter done then.
This was carried out by a main dealer

another interesting update. Just took the car in for its 64000 mile 5th service (service A). This was on a service plan. They did a standard oil change and another transmission oil change (despite it being changed 3 months ago).

TBH, I can rally notice the difference in a major way. Feels like a brand new car.

BTW service should be able to tell you the ATF change cycle. My gearbox is a 7 gear 724.2 device and it is due in 5 years / 65k. They did it without any question.

Right, the dealer is utter crap and they don’t know what they’re talking about. Yours beeing a 2010 registered car will first still have the older 642 engine with 231 ish bhp, and it will have the older 7G tronic which needs doing every 37.5k miles. The other schedule is for tge 7G+ box. Even if it is the 265 bhp version if your tax band is higher than £210/168 co2 then you’ve got the old box.
