- E55k AMG Sold / S211 E320 CDI I6 sold W212 E63 6.2 N/A saloon. S212 e250 cdi .
Just of late I have been looking at the S class W221. Being such a big car and really liking what they offer regarding speciation and options, ride quality and the extra interior room they offer, my head has been turned quite a bit.
Having owned now two AMG vehicles in the E class chassis. I have definitely scratched that itch of owning/running both amazing engine AMG cars m113k first off now currently the m156. Both have been a pleasure to own and drive on a daily basis. The ride quality of the w211 is quite something and the power a stock engine can produce and throw you back into your seat is something I was so happy and privileged to have experienced. Never thought of having the m133k tuned, was plenty fast enough for me as a stock package.
Now currently the W212 6.2 E63. When I originally changed over to this car from the w211 55. I was to read I would be making a backwards step. This has never and was the case for me. The sound of the M156 is to be experienced let alone drive a car with the brute power it offers right up to the redline if you want it too. Hand on heart i have on the odd occasion, when entering a Mway slip rd, put the hammer down and the feeling you get and the noise transmitting through the car and steering is something to make one laugh inside with the biggest grin on your face dong so. It's so addictive, but on the other hand the m156 can do all day to day drives as good as any without even getting above 2k rpm. It's worse attribute with being mpg, but the smiles it gives per miles, you forget about, and put that to the side. The ride comfort the w212 amg offers isn't as forgiving as the w211 AMG. But everything else the w212 does is better. Handling is on a different level. MCT box Vs 5 speed torque converter box. MCT really suits the car and engine, it's a really good combination. Having my w212 car to a decent condition and always maintaining it to whenever it has needed a repair or a wear and tear items to be replaced i have done so, and aways put decent brand tyres on the car. Car is driving/performing amazing for my liking.
If I were to change the car for the w221. It would be a total new area of car I would ever dive into. I have read good and bad points on the 221. Electrical issues and gear box issues, air suspension being troublesome along the way. Reading on what the 221 can offer I really feel it would appeal to me and more. But knowing my current car needs for nothing, drives amazingly well and sounds fantastic. And with it being an AMG which didn't run that long in years with the 6.2 in the w212 chassis. Would I regret doing the change to the w221. Entering the unknown is the worry I suppose and would I regret, moving on from my personal favourite engine/car I have ever owned.
