W213 E220d engine oil

Hi all, I have just traded in my 2008 W211 for a 2017 S213 (both E220d).

I notice on the last service performed by the supplying (non-MB) dealer 0w-20 was used. 12 months ago the same dealership used 5w-30 oil.

Looking at the manual all the diesels except e350d are to use MB 228.51, 229.31, 229.51, 229.52 or 229.71. All are 5w-30 except 229.71 which is 0w-20. My local Mercedes dealer used 5w-30.

Is it the case I you can use either as long as it meets MB-Approval?

Absolutly.

Most use 229.52 5W30 genuine branded oil as do we. Your car should have 229.52 or 229.71. The other two 229.31 or 229.51 are for the older diesels.
