E60 M5
Hey guys,

As some of you may remember, I used to own a W211 E55. I sold this to buy an E60 M5 which is stills great car, but my head is being turned by the E63 BiTurbo.

It is a car that is on my short list for next year.

1. E63.
2. F10 M5.
3. Keep my M5.

I don't know a great deal about the E63 other than it is a capable car that can be made much faster. I understand that it won't be as dynamic as my E60 or the F10 M5 and has a torque converter auto.

I am considering changing next year and I am starting to gather knowledge on the E63 now so that I can make an informed decision, after test driving the E63 and the F10 of course.

Any information that can be shown my way would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
Mike

I did the swap from an E55 to an E63 biturbo and don't regret it at all. A little MSL magic and you have a rocketship.

W212 E63 uses Speedshift MCT-7 which is not a torque-converter auto.

BMW are moving to ZF autos with torque-converter autos in their up and coming M5. However, tech has moved on a long way since the E55K.

Thanks chaps. Anything / experiences you can share with me at all please?

I didn't realise the MCT-7 wasn't a torque converter auto. I had a look at some videos / information last night and saw that it has a multi wet clutch setup, so is good in auto mode but less so in manual.

I wasn't hugely impressed with the MCT-7 in the 212 E63 I tried at higher speed changes or lower speeds.

It was good some of the time but some of the time a bit sloppy and lazy.

Might have been on old firmware or something wrong but a main dealer car.

Always worth trying out a prospective steed for yourself though as we all have different opinions.

What kind of info are you looking for?

You might be better off starting a new post with the correct title as I am not sure that many have a 213 E63 so might not even read this thread as they wouldn't know it was for a 212 63 unless they did!

There are a number of threads on here regarding the W212 E63 Biturbo, so not wanting to appear rude, but 5 minutes mousing around and using forum search will turn up lots of info.

My takeaway from living with them for five years is that they're extremely reliable, and huge fun to drive. They do things differently to the BMW M5's, but it's pointless me (or anyone else) telling you that they're better as there will be an equal number who will tell you the M5 is better. Ultimately, both are hugely capable cars but with different personalities so it's going to come down to which one lights your personal fire when you drive it.
