Hi All,
Had been a silent reader of this forum from a long time, but did not have Mercedes, so didn't register.
Finally, bought a W213 E220 2017 3 months back.
The trouble i had was, i went to an automatic car wash, the car was completely normal before going to the wash, as soon as i came out there was check engine light. Got the scan done and was told that the exhaust flap has malfunctioned.
As i am new to mercedes i did not know what to do, so i asked the garage the total cost of replacing the Exhaust Gas Flap Controller, i was quoted £420, £330 part Genuine Mercedes + £90 labour.
The part and labour come with 1 year guarantee.
Got the part fitted and the light went off.
When i got the part box, i did a quick search and found that the same part could have been bought for much less, second hand. around £70-100. Now i find myself in this 'regret loop'. Although its a good experience but a very costly one.
My questions,
- How do you all know what part to order? based on error codes?
- I did not see the same part brand new anywhere online, but the garage was able to order it from Mercedes, how is that possible?
- did the garage charge me a right price?
Many thanks
