Hi
I have just obtained a Japanese imported 220d Diesel Estate into the UK. I've removed the Headunit with the intent to replace it with an European equivalent.
In my ignorance, I thought the unit number would start with W213 900 etc. but was shocked to find it numbered as A 222 900 17 19 / 001 Q1. On the vehicle Data Sheet it states that the Unit is a NTG 5.5.
My questions are 1. Why A 222 and not A W213. 2. What would be an equivalent to the Japanese unit i.e. W222 900 17 19. 3.What do the the numbers following the 900 signify.
W222 units I see for sale have the same connections as Japanese Unit while I am struggling to fin a w213 unit with these connections.
I assume that having found and fitted the correct unit I will need to enter the new Vin or similar, any advice on this would also be appreciated..
Sorry for the many questions.

Give Comandonline a call and ask for Mark or Richard. 01276 451579
They can give you all the info you need, especially regarding getting a second hand unit and coding it to your car.
Have your own Vin# handy for reference.

I would suggest that: A 222 900 17 19 / 001 Q1 is the Part Number for the Head Unit!

Thank you. Will give Comand a ring on Monday and see what they say.
Very grateful for your advice & phone number.

Thanks for your advice. Still can't understand the A222 and not A213 but then again, strictly speaking, it should probably be S213 as it is an estate.
I intend to give Comand a ring on Monday so will update you following the call.

Part numbers start with an A, this does not reflect the body style. No W bolt for a sedan and S bolt for an estate.

I did not check this head unit part number but the same part generally can be used on several different models and the part is named (the Axyz) according to the first model where it is used.

As Diesel Benz suggests, Its A222 because NTG5.5 comand first appeared in the W222 S class, and its the same unit in W222/W217/W238/W213/facelift-W205.
There are some A213 NTG5.5 COMANDs out there, but avoid as the hardware is less capable. I suspect Mercedes made a slightly stripped down one for W213, and then decided that was a bad plan for financial or support reasons.

Thank for your reply. Rang Comand and was advise that the path with least pain i.e. asking MB for essential information, was to fit an Integrated Automotive and use Iplay or Android Auto instead.
