Hi all,

Hoping somebody can help. My original fit Pirelli Cinturato tyres are getting close to replacement on the rear of my E400d (after just 11k miles). Living in the sticks and having run Michelin Cross-climates on my previous V90 Cross-Country, and also on my wife's 1 series, I am considering these as a replacement on the basis of year-round confidence and the fact that I got 40k miles plus out of my last set. The only problem is sizing...
My car has 245/40 R19 fitted on the front; but 275/35 R19 fitted on the rear. I can get the 245/45 for the front in Cross-climate+ format no problem. However, they do not do the 275/35s in any Cross-climate format. The closest I can get is either 285/45 or 275/55 in Cross-climate SUV format, or 255/35 in Cross-climate + format.
So, key questions are as follows -
  • Can I put the 245/40s all-round, (I assume the rear rims are slightly wider)?
  • If not, can I substitute the rear 275/35 with 285/45, 275/55 or 255/35? If so, which would be the best 'fit'?
    • If I can do this, would it be a problem if I have Cross-climate + on the front, with Cross-climate SUV format on the rear? (I assume not as the principles are pretty much the same...)
  • My Pirelli's are run-flat, so no spare with the car. Will this be a problem, or should I just get a compressor and foam?
  • Alternatively - does anybody else have experience of different brand all-season tyres on a 19" E-class?
Thanks in advance - Merc's adoption of different sizes front and rear doesn't half over-complicate the process of ordering new tyres!
Cheers
Charlie

Putting all 4 corners the same would be the obvious choice for me. Depending on the width of the rear wheel.

8,5 Inches225 mm235 or 245 mm
9,0 Inches235 mm245 or 255 mm
9,5 Inches245 mm255 or 265 mm
10,0 Inches255 mm265 or 275 mm

The chart above gives min tyre size on the left and max tyre size on the right. Any changes to the rears would also mean the fronts would need to changed also. I could only find 1 tyre that fitted my rears ,so I bought new 18 inch rims with all weather tyres fitted.

Thank you for that!
