I know there have been lots of posts about problems with the boot not opening or closing but Im experiencing slightly different things.

1) The boot opens fine (it did have some problems but put some lube on the hinges)

2) It shuts but very quickly aka take you head off fast.

3) sometimes the drivers side of the boot sits about 5mm high of the bodywork and the motor whirrs for too long.

My indy thinks the hinge is rusting and the struts are gone.

I'm going to try the struts first i think. any thoughts?

Yes i had the exact same problem and changed the struts, it did slow the closing down.

I also had the problem with the corner higher, i don't know if the new struts had any thing to do with it. After a couple of weeks it settled down and now it is fine.

I was told that if it continued it needed a new motor which sits behind the trim by the battery. Lots of money, £500/£600 if i remember right.

Good luck.

Thanks Peter I'll give the struts a go. I think the motor by the battery is fine as its got the power the lift that hunk of metal. I know there have been comments about 'pucks' (fluid reservoir) being fractured but this seems the obvious answer for now.
