W218 CLS Aircon panel going nuts

Hi.

Has anyone had this? My fan suddenly goes to max and ignores any button presses, including trying to turn it off. Then 5-10 minutes later it settles down again. Only button that works when it is playing up is the Aircon. The temperature changes as it should too.

I'm guessing there is a fault in the circuitry? Anyone had this? I think I still have a few months Mercedes Used Car Warranty (car is a 2011 CLS bought in April 2015), so I will call a dealer on Monday.

Sounds like it is your resistor pack that needs replacing for the fan motor. The motor itself sounds like it is fine.

Hella make the OEM units for MB and can be sourced from ECP at a considerably reduced cost if MB do not honour under warranty. For the 12 month MB warranty on used cars (which is under written by Mondial) there is a clause which states only covered if "complete mechanical failure".

I second comment from Flash - I've had this identical scenario in a couple of previous none MB cars - resistor packs can be sighted anywhere but not uncommon to be behind glovebox area. Not sure on MB costs for this item though. May not be too bad...
