Hi guys
My excellent local indie has said I must use genuine MB sensors to guarantee not having to take the bumper off again soon. He's quoted direct from the local MB dealer at about £130 each! (need 2), which is far too much for my tight wallet. I cannot find a part number (well I can find 3 and don't know what to believe) but on Eurocarparts for my number plate there are Bosch ones (presumably OEM?) for £58 Bosch Parking Distance Sensor | Euro Car Parts but that says "from VIN number A126889" and mine is WDD2193762A048082 - does that mean mine is an earlier VIN? I phoned MB dealer and they will not tell me the part number...
Thanks
phil

If you get the correct part number, I'd consider buying some second hand genuine off eBay from £8 each with the correct colour paint on them. Worth a punt for around £25 if you are DIYing this maybe?

Not overly keen on DIYing due to lack of garage and no drive... apparently it is 1 hour labour which sounds very reasonable to me and indicates it'll be at least 5 hours labour if I do it

Have a look at AUTODOC, there are some for £12+

Much appreciate the help but that ebay sensor doesn't fit my car (mine is a 2005 W219 - I think 2005 W211 will also be relevant as it's based on that chassis). The autodoc site lists dozens of sensors and I have no idea which one fits because I cannot find a part number. Also, the indie says he doesn't trust those cheapo ones. Dunno what to do really as I don't want to pay 260 + labour or pay peanuts and have duff sensors that won't talk to the car properly

message MB Newcastle through their ebay store with your reg No. and get a quote from them. They might be a lot cheaper, and if your using an Indie, they will want to fit genuine to minimise you going back with complaints if the cheap stuff doesn't work (which is fair enough for them as a business).

Thanks so much for the help... getting closer.

TL; DR - is this OK? PDC Parking Sensor MERCEDES A C E GL GLC CLK CLS GLK M ML R SLK SL Vito GENUINE | eBay (update - the inbuilt model checker says no! So I have contacted them to see)

Thanks so much for the help... getting closer.

But this is where I just don't get the numbering: there are 2 numbers on that page you kindly shared:
180DISTANCE SENSOR
PARKTRONIC SYSTEM
004A 00 454 287 18 -$71.06
180DISTANCE SENSOR
PARKTRONIC SYSTEM
004A 22 154 204 17 -$65.83

Then when I click it links to another 2 part numbers: 'analogues' MB A 001 542 74 18 and MB A 000 905 24 02 (I assume that means alternative part?). so there are FOUR part numbers to choose from.

From an Ebay search for a used part (just to get the part number from an image) it seems the 3rd one above (MB A 001 542 74 18) seems right 1x Genuine Mercedes PARKING SENSOR SL R230 CL W216 ML W164 CLS W219 CLK W209 | eBay

But when I google that part number no suppliers appear to sell the Bosch one. There is Eurocarparts who have what they say is the right Bosch part but it has no MB part number so I still don't know... I suppose this is why the mechanic wanted to just go to the dealer

Have ordered MB A 001 542 74 18 from Ebay - seems cheap at £20 for genuine Bosch but compared to £130 from MB I have to try... will save at least £200 if it's ok and waste £40 if not

Just an update for anyone searching for parking sensors: I have been told by Eurocarparts that the correct part number is A 004 542 87 18, but I cannot find a genuine Bosch one in with that code so I have ordered MB A 001 542 74 18 based on the fact it is apparently an 'analogue'... I hope that means it is the same. WIll update when I know.

For now I can see on the t'internet that BOSCH PARKING SENSOR ULTRASONIC SENSOR 0 263 023 939 seems to have MB part numbers of:

When I bought some , cough !! ' Bosch ' ones off eBay , I just bought for car type , not by part number. They worked spot on , think I paid something like £8 each. Only difference I could see was the very outer ones connector was angled so the wiring loom would reach , if you tried fitting straight ones it wouldn't.

Update: The cheap parking sensors with different part number worked.

However, since the garage did the work I've noticed that one side of the front bumper has a bigger gap to the headlight than the other (only about 1 or 2 mm or so but definitely more than before and noticeable). I hate confrontation so do you think it's reasonable to ask them to realign this small difference? Or is it just a typical thing that happens to bodywork?

Cheers

It's like anything that's disturbed I suppose, but maybe they broke a clip or runner , it happens 👍👍. Might be easier to move the headlight and reset the beam pattern. ?

I thought it best to resurrect this rather than post a new thread. My rear parking sensors no longer work, the code reader says right outer, I assume right is looking from the rear of the car? My previous eBay purchase was genuine (allegedly) Bosch and very cheap but unfortunately they're out of stock. I wonder if four for 20 quid will be okay? Anyone any experience of this? Cheers!

I bought a couple of pirate ones off ebay about 4 years ago for my old e class with no problems, they were only cheap.

Update: the 5 quid a pop no brand parking sensors seem to be working perfectly 👍 note Merc dealer wanted something like 130 ea for Bosch ones 🤦

Oddly though , 2 of the 3 sensors that were not working did not throw faults on the code reader...
