Hi,

I've been looking at the various options to play mp3's on my W220 2001 with Comand 2.5 and analogue TV tuner.

I've never had chance to try the analogue tv tuner as the digital switchover had already happened when I bought the car, but I understand that the TV is disabled when the car is in motion. (I don't really want to buy a video in motion adapter for obvious reasons)

However my question to the forum is to find out whether the audio is also disabled. i.e. If I feed audio to the AV1 input on the TV Tuner then can I listen to the audio whilst driving?

Having done a good bit of reading up I think the dension gateway 500 unit and the mercedes player MP40 are a bit on the expensive side so here's my plan.

Purchase an AV adapter for the TV tuner:
Mercedes Comand 2.0 2.5 Audio Video Adapter m. TV tuner | eBay

Purchase a Bluetooth v4.0 audio receiver that also support the APTX protocol (for CD quality streaming over bluetooth):
Bluetooth 4.0 Stereo Audio Music Receiver Handfree Car Kit | eBay

I can then stream audio direct from my smartphone & setup playlists before I start a journey.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 supports all the necessary including the A2DP & APTX protocol.

This means I don't need to run a 3.5mm audio jack from one end of the car to the other.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate if someone can let me know if the TV tuner will still play the audio stream on AV1 whilst the car is moving?

Cheers in advance!!

Nope. Definitely the other way round.
My 2000 model had one and my 2003/2004 doesn't and can't be retrofitted.

The 3.5mm jack is easy to fit to the ntg 2.5 but better still put the sounds on the SD card and get them on the hard drive.

No AUX on Comand 2.5. (its the tape player, comand 2.0 lost the tape player and got an AUX)

As you have TV , the TV tuner has 2 sets of AV inputs, which are selected from the TV screen.

Early tuners had odd connectors for these, and you used to be able to buy RCA converters. Newer ones had RCA connectors, so you'l have to have a good look

Cheers

R

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Can anyone answer whether the audio from AV1 or AV2 on the TV tuner will work while the car is in motion?
It's not important that the picture will go off.

V12, I have the 2002 model and don't have the jack in the glovebox. I have had another look just to be sure.

but does the sound on the TV work while the car is on motion?
I don't mind if the picture turns off.
Does anyone know the answer to this pretty please...

Sound will work just the picture goes to blue screen in my CLK. Probably the same on most cars

Thanks for that design_guru. Much appreciated.
I'll give this plan of mine a try and report back!

Thinking of fitting a digital tv tuner to 2002 cl500 are the av inputs behind the command unit in the dash thus needing it to be taken out ?

Do you have an analogue TV tuner already? If so, it's in the boot and your inputs will be there. If you don't have a TV tuner already then forget fitting a digital tuner.

I would assume so as it has tv button on command console but when searching for channels it fails as we have now gone digital .... Have been in boot several times but only seen cd unit and battery ! ... Not that I've looked for anything else

Have you removed the carpeted panel?

Behind the changer is the amp and above the amp is the tuner.

Removed the boot liner today found the tuner but it doesn't have any RCA skts it does have spare multi pin sockets so it's not so easy now so prob won't bother after all

Bought an adapter lead and a digital tuner off eBay wired it all in ...... Nothing !! Lol rubbish reception ....... Tried it in a garden centre car park about 15 miles from home ..... Perfect reception ..... Must be where I live, has an SD card slot so filled that with MP3's

so what is the best option for aux inputs if there is no tv tuner in the boot?
