Went out to scrape the car this morning only to find ice on the inside of the windscreen as well as the outside. The carpets are dry front and back and there's no dampness in the boot, what could be causing this amount of condensation to be settling inside ?
Because I'm trying to defrost the car I'm using the windscreen heat button on the heater rather than letting the climate control work its magic. Does the windscreen heat button override the aircon and mean it's not running as recommended to reduce condensation ?

Also, as I'm scraping the car the engine is running but no heat is blowing up the windscreen ... does the engine hold onto its heat until it's up to a certain temperature before releasing it through into the heating system ?

Apart from that, does anyone know the whereabouts of the scrot who swiped the star from my bonnet on New years Eve .... £29 down going into the new year !

Hi martin

The only time i have ever seen that amount of condensation you describe is when there is damp/water inside the vehicle.

There will be a delay on the heat coming through to the heating system as it will take time for the thermostat to open if the thermostat is working correctly that is.

Does the car get up to operating temperature easily enoughas this would be an indication of the thermostat is on its way out.

I can't find any damp patches in the car apart from the driver's mat where I was depositing snow last week - I'll put it on a radiator today to make sure it's dry through.

The engine heats up normally, just a little slow in these conditions, so there's a good 10 minute delay before heat gets to the cabin.

Try running with your air con on all the time i do and no condensation problems, but the cars seem very prone to this, if you have the door open for a few minutes the damp seems to get in and stays until dry again.

Without looking at the car its hard to diagnose the problem.

One thing that springs to mind have you checked the air intake on the heating system as these are prone to getting blocked up and allowing water into the cabin area. I know you say the carpet is not wet but it could be only just coming into the car so it is wet further up and hasnt got to the carpet yet

blocked/overdue charcoal filter?

Not sure of the vintage of your S but I'm guessing it's an earlyish W220 like mine was. I had this problem and it was water getting in as described above, mine wasn't apparent on the passenger footwell carpet for some time after the misting/icing problem you describe started.

Check the thread here http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/interior/46171-water-water-everywhere.html for the fix that worked for me.
