The only part of my S350's interior that is letting it down is the glove box release button. The paint has come off leaving the white plastic showing underneath.

I spoke with Mercedes and you can order this part individually without having to change the whole lock mechanism. I ordered it arriving Saturday so my question is how do I remove the button and replace it? Has anyone done this before or know how to do it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

On my W211 the button cover just pulls off... You could just give it a yank as you have a new part on the way. You will be able to see how it attaches once you get the part.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully it will be that easy! Picking the part up tomorrow so as you say I'll get a better idea when I see t in the flesh.

Thanks again! :thumb:

I have the same problem, didn't know you could buy the button individually . Let us know how you get on !!

Will do, a lot of the S Class's I've seen have the same issue but it seems after searching the net that there isn't a guide on how to replace the button anywhere.

My old 600 suffered from this as well. Last I checked you have to buy a new lock as the button isn't available separately. Although mine wasn't peeled to the same extent as in the picture above, I had the paint matched and touched up by the shop. End result:

Well, I've fixed the issue. I bought a new button and lock case (all one part) from my local dealer, not cheap at £80 for such a small item.

To fit it I had to remove the glve box, once that was done it gave me access to the screws with secured the lock / button release to the dashboard. I then had to remove the lock mechanism and transfer it to the new part, a bit of a fiddly job but easy enough. That's about it, secure the new part and glove box and the job's a good un!!

This was the biggest blemish on my interior and it looks much better for the new part:

While I had the glove box out I thought it would be wise to change the cabin filters. I know these can get overlooked and it seems this was the case here as the manufacture date on the ones that came out were 2010. They were dirty too!
