One of the rear parking sensors had slipped backwards and was partly inside the bumper. I could not pull it outwards and I could not access it from below without taking off the bumper. The bumper fixings were corroded and I anticipated problems with sheared bolts etc. The sensor did not appear to be accessible from within the boot.
After some head scratching I removed the light fitting (it is held by 4 x 8mm nuts) and this gave me access to get 2 fingers to the back of the sensor. I put some super glue on the sensor's rubber surround and pushed the sensor into place. After a minute it was beginning to stick and I left it overnight.
It is still in place, so it turned out to be a simple fix. This info. may help someone in a similar position.
