Hi,

I have a problem of very little hot air from vents. I have read various posts regarding duo valve etc and was wondering if someone could tell me the best way to fault find please.

Symptons:

Motorway: temp gauge around 40 degress
In traffic: goes up to 80 - 85

Climate set at max or 32 but air from vents is luke warm.

Have checked all fuses and all ok.

Any suggestions / advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

hi tricky my first guess would be that your thermostat is kapput and stuck open. From memory about £40 from euro car parts and im pretty sure theres a " how to" on it

Hi, sorry to hijack your thread, but my W203 C320 has the same problem. Would that be a thermostat problem as well? and how much for a new one?

Morning gents,

firstly thank you for your thoughts. I sat on drive with engine running for about 10 mins this morning, then drove 5 mins to M25. Outside temp was between 2 & 4 degrees and drove 34 miles with gauge reading 40 - 50 tops along motorway. Came off and sat in slow moving traffic and it did not rise much. Got to office sat for 5 mins with engine running and it went up to 60. So guess thermo is a job for weekend.

I had a look on Euro's web site and they dont list any thermostats for the s320!! Odd!" will give them a call.

thanks again for your help. Will post a reply when thermo changed and if resolved issue.
Richard

I'd say that your car is running cold.

My W220 is nearly always just below 80, rises above in heavy traffic.

The heater does blow a little cooler than previous cars, sometimes have to set to 25 to warm up in the mornings.

Have you tried turning the aircon off and recirculating the air?

Hi Lewboy,

I have the AC button so the LED is on and therefore AC is off. Did try the recirculating button and it did make a little difference but not much even with the temp set at 32 or max still came out cool air.

I keep most of the stats in for the Cdi engines, pm me if you need one.!!

I would say you should speak to Merc about this termostat. It comes with housing and new sensor built in. Price is 42.80+vat and there wont be any fittment issue. I dont think its really expensive for that kind unit to look for Europart replacement. :thumb:

Morning Richard , just thought that i would add that when i got my w210 320 cdi it displayed exactly the same symptons as yours does now. After changing thermostat it now sits at just over 80 all day long regardless of traffic conditions. So good luck for the weekend.

Just spoken to [email protected] (Franey) and have on order a new thermostat. Great price and very helpful guy's. Will update when fitted. Thanks again all for your help.

Hi All,

Sorry for the late reply. Got thermo from Wunderparts very quickly. Thanku. fitted all ok and temp gauge now reading 90 - 100 and pretty quickly. Have now a warm enviroment although on max temp setting i feel the amount of air flow is still low compared to when cold air is coming through but that may be cos I am comparing to my BMW and not used to Merc's heating system.

Also my fuel economy doesnt seem to have change much. (Am going to post a chip post to get some feed back on how the chips perform etc).

I also cleaned filters out behind glove box too.

Thanks all again for assistance.

Have you checked the cabin/pollen filter in the engine bay? If it hasn't been changed recently, that could be a possible cause of low air flow

Is there one in the engine bay? I thought they were the 2 behind the glove box on passenger side which i hoovered!

Hi Tricky

I have the same car on 2002 and HAD the same problem, its definately the thermostat. Rather than use Europarts or anyone else, I think it is best to get the Original part from main dealer. In my Experience getting important parts like thermostat, Cats etc etc its always best to spend a few pence extra for the peace of mind, done the same mate and yes problem was solved immediately. Got a problem now with the engine being quite "boomy" when driving from cold any idea what it could be ? - NICK

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I had cool running issues, i.e. doesn't get above 60. I've had the coolant changed and a new thermostat installed about 3 weeks ago when the garage changed my alternator, and its not really any different. Drove 200miles yesterday and only got to 65, but spent most of it at 60.

Any ideas what else it could be and how to find/fix it please?

Thanks, Upex

The new stat could be faulty.

The new stat could be faulty.

Any ideas how I can test that? Other than buying another and swapping them out?

Thanks
