Hi All. I have just purchased an S320cdi with comand, is there a conversion available to upgrade the TV from analogue to Digital
(Pref with freeview) as the picture quality is poor, and it wont be long before there is no analogue at all.
Many thanks in advance.
Ian.
P.S. It's a 2002 on a 02 plate, first reg March 02.

Easiest thing to do it connect an aftermarket digital tuner to the av inputs on your analogue tuner.

Car audio shop or online car audio sites and ebay. Have a look at the veba and zenec tuners.

EASIAST thing would be to buy an official MB digituner as would fit on designated bracket and integrate FULLY with the car.

But CHEAPEST thing to do is add an after market device.

I did this very job on my W220. I used one of these.

In terms of functionality it is the same for both. The Mercedes digital tuner still needs to be connected to the av input on the analogue tuner. It cannot be controlled by the headunit and is controlled by remote. An aftermarket tuner would work exactly the same but will be a fraction of the cost.

Agreed, but the MB tuner is more elegant in that the remote eye doesn't have to be wired through to the front of the car and you get channel info up on the dash.

But for the cost differential, the aftermarket one is the way forward.

At least, I think you'd get channel info up on the dispaly?
Might not actually, as it only connects to the AV inputs.

If you replace the whole tuner unit with a digital one you definately get the channels on the dash.

Signal wise its not good when moving (rear screen ;)) as its digital screen just goes blue if signal is bad, but in some cases you might get sound.

after market add on unit is the best way forward, oem units can cost ALOT of money.

I think with the pre-face lift W220 digital TV is only available via the AV inputs on the analogue device.
i.e. there isn't a digi only option available for that age car.
(Could be wrong)

But anyway, aftermarket is definitely the way.

Would have to cast my mind back, but any questions from the OP and I'll try to explain what I did.
Does your analogue tuner have the RCA connectors for AV 1 and AV2?

Mine had the MQS sockets so had to make up the leads.

Thanks all for your replies.
As for the sockets, I have no idea what type they are.
But after market looks like the way to go.
I have found an 'Xtrons' FV002 DVB-T Freeview tuner
for the princely sum of £45!
But, and it is a big BUT, it is made by 'EONON',
and I once bought a car dvd player from them which
died an ugly death after 9 days.
They asked me to post it back to Hong Kong for repair
at a cost to me of £136, and no guarantee on the repair!
Needless to say it was last seen entering a skip!
So up to now, it looks like either the Veba or Zenec.
Unless someone knows better and cheaper.

Hi, I would like to convert analog TV to digital. I managed to find instructions on how to do it but I have a problem because I'm not sure what cable I need to use. I took out the analog TV tuner from my car and pasting his picture below. Also I bought the digital tuner from amazon

Konig FTA DVB-T Scart Receiver: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Can someone help me connect this?
Thanks

You have the MQS type connectors like I had. So you'll have to make up the cables yourself if you're handy with a soldering iron?

I think there were some on eBay some time ago. I'll check............

Thank you for your prompt reply. It would be best to buy ready-made cable:)
But if it is not available, I'll try to do it
I know how to use soldering iron but I do not know which wires to connect?:o

Somewhere, I've got the pin out diragram you need.
It isn't that difficult.

But this will really annoy you:
Just this weekend I threw away some of the spare bits I had left over from when I did this job.
I knew it!!! But my wife never listens to me when I say, "can't throw that away, I might need it some time."

The parts are not expensive but hard to find. I think I got them from Farnell as they are the only ones who stock it.
Where are you based?

Does no one else can help me? Maybe someone else has asome diagram for connection? I would appreciate

Sorry I was supposed to look for the wiring diagram for you. Will check tonight to see if it's on my desktop PC.

OK I've found the pin out diagram.
Need your email address to send it to.
PM it to me and I'll send it accross.

(Think you need min of 30 posts to send PMs though).

I sent you a message with my e-mail address. Have you received it?
