W220 s500 abc....?

Can anybody tell if ABC was standard on the 1999 W220 S500??

I know about airmatic (and its related problems, because I've had some of the problems), but, wanted to be sure on the ABC.

Hi, as far as I know, the ABC feature was an option on the S500 and standard feature on the S600. Hope this helps. All CL's have ABC. Also all AMG variants of each S and CL classes have ABC as standard. I could be wrong but Im quite sure its correct. Just remember ABC = Empty pockets.

Thanks - I have been looking at a couple for sale - and they don't mention ABC, so wasn't sure if that was an omission in the ads, or, if was just an option.

Have to say, would prefer if it wasn't fitted. I'm sure its fab when it works properly, but a money pit when it doesn't.........

Had enough headaches with airmatic suspension on the S430 - so now I knopw the pitfalls of that system, I certainly wouldn;t want to swap to a car which is even more complicated.

(sold the S430 this morning......so will be keep trawling the ads)

Airmatic has its own problems but its cheaper (is there such a thing?) to fix and diagnose. There is a specialist company in the USA that sells Airmatic struts which are twice as strong as the Mercedes ones and also come with a warranty (extended), this option is not at present available for ABC, however this company is starting to remanufacture ABC struts early this year so things should get a little cheaper (but still able to bleed you dry). Hope this helps.

i have a car that isnt listed by merc its a w220 S430L AMG its got 4 wheel drive 7 speed gearbox 5 forward 2 in reverse its a 1999 model has sat nav in the computer in clock cluster along with sat nav in dashboard 16 air bags air suspension never gone wrong they had to put spacers on so my 20 inch wheels would cover the massive callipers and cross drilled brake discs it lowers itself at 80 mph all the numbers match up it hasnt had an engine change so is all original has double glazing 4x climate control all seats front and rear have hot and cold function massage lumber fans in the seats so they can blow air through the pin holes in all seats can control front seat from the back it has an amg badge on engine about an inch square there are no other amg badges it has zenon hid clear headlights dated 99 and so many extras if an air bay deploys it calls the emergency services i have all the paperwork data card log book service history mots but merc said all the paperwork had been destroyed it has so many extras im wondering if it was the show car at a motor show and i can see you know a bit about this model is it a 1 off or did they make 1 but its not listed under AMG the distronic is set buy the stalk that you use to set the cruise control if you could shed any light on this for me i would be very grateful many thanks tipper 71
