All,

Just got my 2002 S500. Today as I was driving along, the instrument panel light went out. I checked the fuses and they were fine so I assumed the instrument illumination bulb? had gone... Then half way back, the light came back on again and stayed on all the way back.

Any thoughts as to why this might be?

Thanks,

There was a re-call for these clusters.
I had mine done by dealer for free.

Get yours checked. Should be able to tell you from VIN if your car is eligible.

I've checked with two different dealers and both say that mine is not part of the recall unfortunately...

try revtronic in Yorkshire I got mine repaired there for £160.

Is there a Relay that controls the Instrument Panel Illumination?

Hi,

Now had the car for a week or so and (touch wood) the intermittent fault with the instrument panel illumination seems to have gone away...

I know the car had been sitting around for a month or so. Could it be that some damp or similar had set in and now I'm using it regularly the warmth has driven any moisture out?

Is there a relay which controls the illumination? It switches on when you open the driver's door so in my simple mind, there is a relay.... Anyone know?

Thanks...

Alistair
