Hi, I have recently purchased a W220 and when I was checking underneath Today I noticed at the Front the Tyres have worn away on the inner edges approx 20mm, I take it that this is due to Tracking and I will have to replace the Tyyres, The rears do not have much wear left in them so I will replace all four, Reccomendations Re, what you think are a good Tyre for this model would be appreciated, I do not do High miles .not a lot of Motorway and not a speedy driver, at the moment it is fitted with Roadstone tyres but I have no idea how long they have been on there.

Regards, Gary.

Wow, mine wear on the outside long before the rest of the tyre wears out. I wish I could acheive a compromise between what you have and how mine wear, I'd get over 20k miles out of them.

I can't reccommend a tyre, I've been using cheapos such as accellera and kumho as I'll need a full set every 3 months. Both of these have been fine but if I did low miles I'd be tempted with a more well known brand.

if they are wearing on the outside, could that also be down to tracking, I am pretty sure it is known as toe in - toe out, yours may need adjusting in the opposite way to mine.

As far as I Know the W220 just wears the outside fronts and the middle of the rears, I'm currently trying a bit more air in the fronts and a little less inh the rears. Within the reccommended limits of course.

I'm currently about 12k miles on these and are wearing well. (Accellera)

Called a couple of Tyre places earlier one of the best quotes so far seems to be Falken @ £500 for 4 fitted, balanced etc, Then tracking on top of that.

9k on my tyres and even wear so far

Accellera on the front and Dunlop SP9000 on the rear. 34psi front and 35psi rear

Mine eat on the outside on the front and inside on the rear its pretty normal I know how it can be reduced on my car. Always flooring the car eats on the inside at the rear and always going round corners quite quick! I use use Michilins pilot sports last me bout a year 7-9K. Noise is quite loud due to the low profile might go for a fatter profile next time!

Tyre weare on insides could be alignment or coudl be due to straddling speed bumps.....in any case get yourself a decent 4 wheel alignment....Wheels in Motion best for this but based in Chesham so may be a bit of a drive for you.

£500 seems a bit much for 4 x Falkens fitted...depends on size of tyre of couse, but I had 225/45/17 Falkens fitted for £90 each recently. Falken f452 excellent tyre.

My W220 takes 245/45wr18 and i'm using Falken 912's and so far really like them, nice and quiet.

Falken's are great. I have them on the 221

Have a look at this for a ball park figure.
ORDERING ::

A lot of tyre places will fit and balance the tyres you bought for about £10-12 a corner, so factor that in the price and you could probably shave £40 off the £500 you quoted, but I would tend to tell the place that quoted you that price what you can get them for and I'll be supprised if they wont bring their's down to match that if they can.

Where I live fitting and balancing a tyre seems to cost at least £15 a tyre, probably nearer £20.......Might be cheaper where you are but look into costs first.......

Seems to me not much of a saving if you go the Camskill route.....you could try and negotiate price down with your local supplier I suppose...

Well I have been searching all of the so called cheap tyre retailers on the web, we all know who they are, But the price they are asking plus delivery plus fitting, the Quote of £500 for the Falkens is looking quite good especially after reading the positive comments from others on the Forum regarding them. I will have another look Today, but I don't think I will get a better quote for Falkens. A couple of weels ago I had to get a Tyre for my Daughters Stilo Abarth, Pirelli P Zero Nero (There's a mouthfull) After ringing around they were the cheapest then, and they are a 1/2 mile from me.

Thanks for the comments on the various makes, I thought I would have to buy the premium Tyres but thankfully the mid range seems to do the job, We don't do a lot of miles so if checked regulary they should last some time.:thumb:

Agree...go for your local tyre suppier/fitters....any savings by sourcing them elsewhere are hardly worth the hassle..
