Good evening guys

Any thoughts or ideas welcome I have a s 320 cdi w221 year 2007 166km on clock and it’s blowing black smoke which means to little or too much air by my reasoning.
I have put car on star no faults showing
I have tested every thing in cdi engine management.
Compression , injectors , egr,s , maf’s and so on all working perfect . Inlet shut off works perfect .

When you drive the car at 60 km a hour and at 40 km a hour you get a hesitation almost jumping like dirty fuel so I emptyed everything . I filled her up with new fuel and mb fuel filter no change of symptoms.
I have a donor car which runs perfect so I changed the following

Both egr’s
All injectors
New turbo
Cleaned dpf
New o2 sensor
New maf s

Still no change and still no faults on star in any area

I’m at the stage I don’t know what’s happening and any ideas welcome

It’s a strange one

Air filter blocked?

No also new she has been fully serviced with mb parts

It’s a strange one I spent the whole day trying to fix it with no joy .

Fuel pressure perfect starts first time no loss in power

Just like a old Cummings Jeep with black smoke pours out back and the hesitation at slow speeds it’s worse at traffic speeds and then just after a lot of smoke comes out it’s embarrassing to be honest.

Could you have a split hose/leak on the air inlet side causing too little air?
Try doing a hard reset just to see if its an ECU issue.

All hoses checked

When you mean a hard reset what do you mean

Does it rev normally when not in gear (i.e. P or N)?

When in D does it use all of the gears or does it shift quickly?

Disconnect the battery for 30mins and then reconnect and run as normal,
it makes the Ecu start from a basic map and restart learning I think?

Revs as it should in p & n

It uses all the gears I have been checking as I thought maybe the gearbox was sending a bad signal

I have driven it in C for a few hours and S no problems I also drove in M and all seams ok

Do you have a documents on this procedure to be honest I have not heard of it before I do know if you disconnect both batteries one in engine bay and one in boot you may need star to restart the car

Tomorrow I’m going to change back pressure sensor and map sensor and dpf differential pressure sensor see if I get any change

As mentioned star is saying all is well no faults I have one open circuit on passenger heated mirror but some how I don’t think that is causing my chain smoking W221

Worst part is it spent a week in paint shop and was perfect three days later this happened now car destroyed in black sut on back bumper

Update

Looks like previous owner played with ecu changed egr and dpf settings I took my car to a tuning garage I know they say it’s best to get a main dealer to put back original file

And hopefully the car will run ok after
And he also mentioned that it looked like they may have disabled some system to show certain faults

So I’m getting their but not the news I wanted to hear more money to be spent

And I can’t wait for my MSL bill

Msl don’t want to touch the car afraid that they might damage the ecu

I told them I just want a update and I’ll sign a waiver

Answer was buy new ecu
1500 plus vat
180 plus vat for update and sign waver
And we’re busy so we can only do it in three weeks

Thank you Msl

Saga continues

Took ecu to specialist they returned the ecu to original but didn’t do the job correctly so once I plugged it in I found out I had a short circuit on injector 4,5,6 so the driver for those injectors was not installed correctly sent ecu back now their technician is finding it hard to fix so the fun continue s car off the road a month now .

I’ll update soon final result

Doesn’t sound like MSL, did you speak to Acid ?

I’m based in Ireland unfortunately the standard we get here from MSL is a lot less then in England.

Well at least you have found out what is causing the problems,I think you said you have a donor car, what about the ecu in the donor car.

Unfortunately it’s gone but im looking at getting all parts from another

I’ll need
Main ecu
Gearbox ecu
Key
EIS
Dash clocks
Steering lock
Drivers door lock
Boot lock

So most breakers see all this a the price goes through the roof so I’ll wait and see

Phone call today about ecu fingers crossed
