Hi,
I have a 2010 W221 350 CDI Blue Efficiency S Class. On the centre console there is a button (left side, furthest from the front) which appears to be the button for operating blinds, but it does nothing when pressed.

How can you tell if blinds have been installed or not and is that button installed by default whether blinds are installed or not ?

Thanks

That's what i'm trying to establish. If I take a look at the rear screen, I can't see anything obvious, or in the windows of the rear doors. Hence my question is the button just installed by default in all cars of that era, or could I have a blown fuse etc ?

Are you sure it is for a blind? If it is, you should have one. I am 99% sure, if you have a button/switch fitted the corresponding option is fitted, otherwise it would be a blank.

Can you post a picture of the button?

Here's a pic. I have looked through the car and i'm convinced there are no blinds installed. But the button in question does nothing at all. If it's not a button for blinds, anyone know what it's meant to do ?

Interesting. So the full button is there, but appears there is no shade / blind. I assuming that an installed blind is pretty obvious if you look for it... runners for it to follow etc ?

The blind is installed in the rear shelf, there are no 'runners'

Ok, thanks. I'll dig into a bit more.

Brilliant, thanks. Nothing about blinds listed. Search over. Still a bit odd that I have the button though

If the rear blind is a standard fitment or part of a package it might not be listed separately on the build sheet.
Have a good look at the rear window shelf before dismissing the part. the fact nothing happens may just be a blown fuse?

Plus 1! :) FWIW I had the rear blind on my CLS 55, but looking at the rear shelf you could not tell. Once the button was pressed, it just popped up, seemingly out of no where.

Definitely worth further investigation.

Well I have looked at a couple of W221 mercedes and it seems that the button was there even when there is no rear sun blind,so it would seem you do not have a rear sun blind, before you ask these rear shelves with the sun blind do come up for sale on ebay, best find out just how difficult retro fitting one will be,I have always been amazed just how much people want to charge for retro fitting.

I find it hard to believe that MB would include a button that does nothing?

I take your point, but in this case the button is one of three on the left side of the centre consol with another three on the right, they may have made a decision to fit the sunshade button because it looked right,on the long wheelbase w221 I believe the sunshade was fitted as standard as was the sunroof,I was amazed that Mercedes used different looms for cars with heated seat and those without, cost saving in wire is next to nothing, but complicates the build the op's car is a late w221 maybe they did fit the sunshade on later models,I looked at a 07 and a 09 w221 .

Sounds a bit odd to me. My CL has a blind but my button in that exact same spot in the centre console is just a star/asterisk. I would have thought if you didn't have the blind you would just get that rather than an actual picture of the rear blind.

They are prone to getting jammed though so if you get a picture of your rear deck it will be easy for someone to tell if it's tucked in there.

I've seen the button without the blind before in a CL.

It does nothing when pressed obviously.
