W221 Navigation Maps

Is there a map upgrade for my system, mine is early 2007, I was in a 2006 over the weekend and his map was showing more roads in the country than mine was, he said he had never upgraded it, maybe Mercedes upgraded it when it was in for a service.

Any thoughts please.

Of course there would be an update if it currently has MAPs data from 2007. The current one is version 10 I believe, with part # A2218276859 (should double check it).

The latest version 10 came out mid april - it was a long time between that and the old release.

"It is on the hard drive" but if you want to update the Maps database, you do it from a DVD. You don't need the DVD after the update has been completed.

Another colleague has a 2011 W221, would his disc upload into mine without any problems.

No, the system changed.

MB say updated every year, I always tell people to update when they find missing roads annoying them, or with the newer systems when they put CDs in and it doesn't know the track names/titles (as the CDDB is loaded from the disks)

That would make sense, I didn't know until it told me I was in a field out in the country in Co Tyrone.

Didn't know it would upgrade the drivers for the DVD/CD systems as well.

Are we supposed to have the original disc with our cars, or does the dealer keep them, I don't have mine and my college with the 2011 new car was not given it with the car

Cars with a HDD based navigation unit do not come with a DVD from the factory, the dealer has not picked up your DVD.

You should not need the DVD either. If the device fails somehow during the warranty period, the dealer would take care of it and you should purchase a map update before your warranty expires anyway (just to get the map database updated).

Thanks for the reply, mine is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase the 2011 disc unless someone has one I could use to load onto mine for a fee , seems to happen on one of the US forums, they pass the disc round for a cost of $30

I just buy the disc, update the maps and sell the disc on and dont loose much. As it has been out a while you will probably find the latest disc for sale second hand on ebay by someone who has done the same.
